It is almost a lock that both the men and women will open tournament play on Sunday. If you haven't already got your tickets for all games, single game tickets go on sale on Monday at 10 AM at ticketmaster.com or 1-800-745-3000. Let's get as much Coyote red in the old Arena on Sunday as possible. If you have never been to the tournament, it is fantastic experience; great basketball and a great atmosphere. The only negative is there is way too much blue in the crowd. It is the premier athletic event in SD.
The men will be no lower than the 5 seed and would have to sweep the Bison & Bunnies this coming week to move up in the standings. The 4 and 5 seeds play at 6 on Sunday.
The women are in a 3 way tie for third (the Bunnies have locked up first place and IUPUI has locked up second place) and will likely end up as the 3 or 4 seed and even if they lose both games this coming week they would be no worse than a 6 seed. The women's games on Sunday match the 4 and 5 seeds at noon and 3 and 6 seeds at 2:30.
Let paint Sioux Falls red.

Great post. There's only one thing wrong with it, and it's not the fault of the poster: the people on this board are most likely the very people that will be doing the 'red painting'. It's a common theme here, but we need to somehow get the casual alum fired up for these events! They need to become fans, not just alums! Last year's women's performance should help and hopefully a good showing by the men and women this year will help as well. I've got my tournament passes and can't wait! Spread the word to friends, neighbors, coworkers- let's see some significant improvement over last year's (fan) showing. GO YOTES!!!!

I am looking forward to another great tournament. I think I read sometime ago that there were less than 1000 seats left so if you want single session passes or any type of seats you better jump on them early tomorrow.

If you are on this forum you are probably the type of person that wants to go to these. Sadly, some of us live 4 hours away :/. It would be nice if they advertised it more around campus so we could get some students to head up there....idk what to do. But with this transition I expected we would have to build a fan base....hopefully it will catch on soon.

Just hoping there's a better USD crowd than last year. It was pathetic in 2013. Mentioned that to a couple folks, and the argument always seemed to be, "We're new at this." BS, show up.

Honestly, what is wrong with the Sioux Falls group? What's it going to take to get them fired up for Coyote athletics, or is it impossible? Our fan base in SF is terrible. Kudos to all those that do go to games, but we should be pulling a couple thousand from there to games, and at best we get a couple hundred.
I've said this before, and I'll say it again, I'm nervous as hell pledging to the arena project to build a 6000 seat arena, and having 800 show up. I know you'll all say that if we build it it will come. I'm not certain. I have said for years the emphasis for "recruiting" fans should come from Yankton and Sioux City. I'm fed up with SF.

Your numbers will get better once USD starts having more success. This is only the 2nd year that USD can participate in the conference tournament. Win a game or 2 in Sioux Falls (on the mens side) and the numbers will get better. A lot of people in Sioux Falls root for SDSU during the tournament because of the recent success that the men's and women's basketball programs have had. But you are right, Sioux Falls in SDSU territory right now.

Hopefully this year we can leave a mark on the tourney. NDSU is the favorite, but this whole thing is wide open. Maybe our guys can treat these games like home games and put out some great performances.

You are correct. Being new at this is no excuse. Normally attendance is greatest at new things of this type, not the other way around.

I have lived on the Iowa and Nebraska side of Sioux City. There is likely a better and closer fan base available. USD also draws many students from that area as well. When Morningside and Briar Cliff had good teams, the crowds were decent.

Really dropping the ball by not getting them involved at all.

The Sioux City Journal does a lot better job at covering USD than the Argus does.

Yes, the SCJ does do a better job in covering the Yotes. The 620 AM local sports talk show regularly talks about the Coyotes too, almost daily they will talk about something at USD on either the morning or afternoon sports show. Just this morning they were talking about Tyler Starr which led to a conversation about the amount of former Yotes who went on to NFL careers including conversations about Matt Chatham and a couple of others. Then there was high praise about the quality and level of football being played in Vermillion.
Sioux City is a ripe market for USD, and they better get on it as many in the Sewer are starting to follow Creighton basketball. With Iowa, ISU, Creighton, and Nebraska all having good basketball seasons USD basketball is getting drowned out a bit. A couple of NCAA tourney berths would do wonders to turn SC into a Coyote city, but they need to come in the next couple of seasons.
