fightsd I agree that speed is a nice bonus but if you can make a safety or LB miss you can gain a lot of extra yards. Stefan didn't get all his yards on long runs. I was at the game (I forget who the Yotes were playing) when he had a 90 TD reception and made at least 4 players miss. We currently have some speed but seem to rarely make anyone miss.

Calvin has elite quickness in the mold of our own Stephan Logan. Word is that Calvin has not qualified with either his ACT or GPA, that is why he has no other offers. At this point he is not eligible for a scholarship at USD. He would have to pay his own way unless he gets his GPA and ACT score up. If anyone thinks that getting Strong is not a great get I question your football acumen.

Honestly, never seen him play. Just going off the stats given here.

Stefan was a 4.4 guy or below. Is Strong that fast?
Either way, I believe he will be a great player if we he ends up in Vermillion and can remain eligible. This is the type of kid that can really use football as a stepping stone to get a degree and lead a better life. Probably would not go to college without football landing him there. Some may believe it is unfair that he gets the opportunity just because of his athletic ability, but that is the way it is. Hopefully he can do enough to get eligible and he gets on the right path in Vermillion. Optimistically, in about 5-6 years, I hope he is a USD graduate and our football program and University are better off for having given him a chance.

I have seen Calvin Strong play twice in person - once this year and the other time his jr year. I have no idea how he will be in college in the MVFC but he is the best back I have seen come out of Omaha since Ahman Green. He is very quick and shifty and can really explode into contact. If he comes to the team and is elligible, I think he can be a very good back. I am not ready to crown the kid as all world by this comparison but EmmettSmith ran several 4.7 40 yard time and was able to eventually clock his best ever time in the mid 4.5s He finished his career holding the total rush yardage record in the NFL.
I would be thrilled to have the kid sign - my guess is he would be bringing with him a huge chip on his shoulder and ready to prove the FBS schools made a mistake not offering him.

Calvin Strong had another huge game tonight as Omaha North rolled to a quarter-final win. Sounds like he had around 140 yards in the first half alone. Kid can roll.
