Calvin Strong ended his Omaha North Career with 23 carries for 286 and 3 tds in Omaha Norths 41-0 state championship victor of Creighton Prep. One stat they mentioned on the broadcast is that Calvin had 800 career carries and only 1 lost fumble.

I would love to see him in a coyote jersey, but my guess is this kid ends up in JUCO.

I cant remember the last time we had a guy that was not a fumble machine on offense. Hopefully the football gods get this guy a tutor this summer so he can play for us.

I live 400 miles away otherwise I'd volunteer to be a tutor for free and for any USD students who could use some help.

Calvin Strong with some interesting comments on Twitter
"I love that I got the offer from South Dakota but who wouldn't want a offer from Nebraska"
"im the best RB in the history of Nebraska broke every record 2 straight championships at OmahaNorth patently waiting Nebraska"
Goes on to say "just look me up don't mean to sound big headed calvin strong Omaha north"
Thoughts?

Can't blame the kid for wanting to play in his own backyard for a FBS school. I don't know how the coaching change down there will impact recruiting, but let's hope that they are stacked at the RB position and we can hold on to him.

The best FCS players all wanted offers from the big schools but were somehow overlooked. Zach Zenner and John Crockett could start at RB at several BCS teams. Tyler Starr and Tom Compton are examples for USD recently that could have played anywhere. Can't blame him for making his case on Twitter - he did everything you could reasonably expect with his play. I wish the kid well either way. Would love to have him.

Well said obc. I immediately thought of Calvin when I read that Pelini was fired this morning. If Calvin were my kid, nephew, brother, player, etc...I'd want him to look at UNL too, but in the end I'd tell him to listen to his coach (paraphrasing comments in previously posted article) and "go where they want you because if they want you, they're going to take care of you." UNL will have 4 or 5 Calvin Strongs who played in bigger conferences against better competition, these kids will be bigger, faster, and stronger than Calvin. They'll have more stars and better GPAs and in the end none of that will matter. He could come on the field and prove himself anywhere he wants, but because USD believed in the kid immediately and wanted him from day one, I hope for Calvin that counts for something. If it does and he eventually commits to USD, I have no doubt that this university will take care of him and he'll be a star. At UNL, he'll be far more likely to get lost in the shuffle.

You are right yotefan about players disappearing in the mix at FBS schools. For years almost all of the few SD kids as an example that went to UNL were never heard about again. Given his size, speed etc think he'd be better off being a big fish in a somewhat smaller pond and also have a better chance academically at a more student friendly school like USD.
