You are right yotefan about players disappearing in the mix at FBS schools. For years almost all of the few SD kids as an example that went to UNL were never heard about again. Given his size, speed etc think he'd be better off being a big fish in a somewhat smaller pond and also have a better chance academically at a more student friendly school like USD. Can you name the people that you are referring to the went to UNL (or any other Power 5 school, for that matter) and were never heard from?

Some of the best recruits we miss out on choose to walk on at Nebraska and other big schools. One transfer that left after a successful freshman year was Dusty Stamer. Dusty Stamer

In the last 100 years Nebraska has had 92 All American players. Three were from SD: Larry Jacobson SF '71, John Dutton RC '73 and Randy Schleusener RC '80. Obviously those players were standout players. I'm not saying you need to be an All American to be a standout and I'm not a Nebraska fan but can only think of one other SD player in the last 40 yrs who haa made a name for himself at Nebraska. That is Nate Gerry SF Washington who this year as a So had a great year as safety. He was named Mr. Football of all SD high school players in 2012. Who can name 3 other notable SD players that played for Nebraska? Nebraska this year had 135 players listed on their roster with Gerry being the only one from SD. I'm guessing that they average 2-3 from SD per year on average. So the other SD notables are?

They haven't taken hardly any SD kids in 30 years. Those that went were kids that played significant minutes by the time they left. My point is, rarely do kids leave SD for football and when they do, it has been a smart move (power 5 conference teams).

The exception that I can think of in recent memory was Ryan Schuler of WHS. He ended up at NU after initially commuting to OU - OBVIOUSLY not staying in state at the FCS level (SDSU may have just moved up then). Ryan was not successful, but that was due to a blood clotting condition.

Jon and Mike Vedral out of Gregory SD also played for Nebraska. Both of those walked on and earned there way to scholarships. There youngest brother Mark received a scholarship out of high school as well.

Thanks Cousin Eddie. I did not see him listed on Rivals but Elite Football Network has him listed as the #2 OL in Iowa. He has good size and is exactly what we need is some size in the trenches.
