I'm as eager as anyone to get beyond the speculation and see the "rubber hit the road," but since we are still several weeks out, I thought I'd share this information from Phil Steele's annual preview publication. Anyone paying attention knows that Oregon is an exceptional challenge, but Steele's perspective further highlights the caliber of competition our guys will face. What a great opportunity to compete with the best. Here are his rankings of Oregon's individual units amongst all FBS teams: Offensive Line – #1 Quarterback – #2 Running back – #3 Linebackers – #7 Defensive Backs – #11 Special Teams – #22 Defensive Line – #32 Wide Receivers – Not top-45 Clearly our best strategy is to shut down the run and make the Ducks rely on an inept wide receiving corp…coaching is easy!

Don't forget to come early for the tailgate... USD Alumni Association will have a tent/tailgate section there - starts at 5:30. Alumni has also planned a dinner & music on Friday night at a local winery - bus leaves at 6 from the team hotel (downtown Hilton)

All impressive numbers for sure. However, we are only 48.5 point underdogs. So I guess the Ducks aren't quite good enough for that 7th TD differential. :-) Sadly, I think I know where I'd put my $. I wonder if a college fb team has ever lost 63-0 one week and then won 63-0 the next week. Ah well, it'll be a great experience regardless. Go Yotes!

The biggest problem USD faces in the opener? The Ducks play Michigan State the next week. Kirk Herbstreit called it the biggest game in college football in the month of September.
The Ducks will want to see 1st, 2nd and 3rd string guys and what they can do. All those players will want to play against MSU and the pace, effort, and execution will be relentless.

For those of you not making the trip to Eugene, the Sioux Falls Howling Pack chapter is hosting a watch party at Beef O'Brady's North next to the Sanford Pentagon. Beef's obtained a subscription to Dish Network for one month for the sole purpose of obtaining the Pac-12 Network and broadcasting the Coyotes v. Ducks game. The doors to the large party room with the big screen will open at 7:30 p.m. with kick-off at 9:30 p.m. We're working on putting the final details together, but please spread the word as we hope to have a great crowd on hand!

I'm making a prediction that the result of the Oregon game won't be as bad as some are predicting. USD is a physical football team, kinda reminds me of the way Stanford plays ball. Oregon hasn't had much success against the Cardinal of late. If the Yotes can come out and play a punishing style of football (meaning run the ball and control the clock) then the score should be closer than everyone thinks. Shock the world!? Probably not, but we can dream.

If the OL can hold their own in the trenches against Oregon, it would be a great sign for how they will do in the MVFC.

Best of luck to the Coyotes and hope anyone traveling to Eugene has a great experience. Autzen will be a little tamer without the students there yet but it's still a great venue.

Looking forward to the trip can you tell me a little about the tailgate experience at Oregon? Will they fraternize with the USD fans, or do we need to create our own?

I think you will find the Duck fans very accomodating and eager to have you as part of the day. I always hear great things from opposing teams visiting from afar. I know the Tenessee fans were really pleased last year with the hospitality. Like every stadium in America - you might find a drunk and obnoxious fan or two but I think you will find this a rare exception. The Duck fans will be very pleased to have you there.
I'm on the east coast now and only make one trip a year back to the homeland. Arizona game this year.
Have a great time

Oregon's head coach is scheduled to be on the Dan Patrick Show tomorrow at some point. I'm sure there won't be a whole lot of talk about us but there's gotta be at least one or two mentions. Hope they keep the "Coyotes" to two syllables!

Hope they keep the "Coyotes" to two syllables! At least don't call us SDSU or have the wrong logo. That drives me nuts.

Probably not, but we can dream. What sort of score are you expecting? Admittedly I don't know much of anything about the Coyotes (did notice that your o-line looks pretty big), but I can't think of a reason why it shouldn't go about like Oregon's recent games with FCS schools. If success against the ducks were just a matter of deciding to play a "punishing style" of football, every team would do it. Delivering punishment is also about personnel -- you can line up like Stanford and run their plays, but ... With Sparty up next week, I suspect Oregon will be pretty conservative and will call off the dogs early (wouldn't be surprised to see Mariota sitting before the half). I'll predict 55-10. For those going, should be great early-season football weather. There's a "what to do in Eugene" board over on eDuck, if anyone is looking for last minute advice. Good luck in your conference this year.
