I'm making a prediction that the result of the Oregon game won't be as bad as some are predicting. USD is a physical football team, kinda reminds me of the way Stanford plays ball. Oregon hasn't had much success against the Cardinal of late. If the Yotes can come out and play a punishing style of football (meaning run the ball and control the clock) then the score should be closer than everyone thinks. Shock the world!? Probably not, but we can dream. What sort of score are you expecting? Admittedly I don't know much of anything about the Coyotes (did notice that your o-line looks pretty big), but I can't think of a reason why it shouldn't go about like Oregon's recent games with FCS schools. If success against the ducks were just a matter of deciding to play a "punishing style" of football, every team would do it. Delivering punishment is also about personnel -- you can line up like Stanford and run their plays, but ... With Sparty up next week, I suspect Oregon will be pretty conservative and will call off the dogs early (wouldn't be surprised to see Mariota sitting before the half). I'll predict 55-10. For those going, should be great early-season football weather. There's a "what to do in Eugene" board over on eDuck, if anyone is looking for last minute advice. Good luck in your conference this year. 55-10 is probably "not as bad as everyone expects". My prediction regarding the score is that Oregon will decide what the final score is. If they want to win by a hundred they can, but probably won't decide to do that to us.

There will be a physicality differential -- lopsided in favor of Oregon.

For those going, should be great early-season football weather. There's a "what to do in Eugene" board over on eDuck, if anyone is looking for last minute advice. Good luck in your conference this year. One of our beat writers, Mick Garry, has suggested that Oregon represents the toughest opponent in South Dakota (state of) football history, which would include the FBS games our rival, South Dakota State, has played. I don't know if I can offer an argument. Mick appropriately makes a comparison to the Wisconsin team we played several years back (and Oregon faced in the Rose Bowl) that had Russell Wilson, Monte Ball, Nick Toon, Chris Borland, etc. We kept it respectable for the first quarter and a half, trailing just 10-3, but then Wiscy took control and cruised to a 59-10 blowout. You're spot on with your assessment of physical play. Plenty of teams more talented than USD have hoped to "out physical" Oregon and failed miserably. Oregon is not just smoke and mirrors. They are smoke, mirrors, speed, strength, size, and punch you in the mouth. Our guys are going out there to fight - and we have nothing to lose - but we're severely over matched on paper. My heart tells me Oregon comes out sloppy, we have some success running the ball and shortening the game, and leave with a respectable 25-point loss. My head tells me Oregon jumps out to a big first-half lead, lets off the gas in the second half, and we end up with a score similar to the Wiscy game, or worse. I will say that USD plays in the best FCS league in the country, what many consider the SEC of FCS...or should it be the Pac 12 of FCS? I'm hopeful for a better showing than some of the lesser caliber FCS teams that have made recent stops in Eugene.

A lot of sports books don't even run money lines on games like this, but the popular site fivedimes.com lists USD at +150000 and Oregon -450000. To put that in perspective, if you bet $100 on USD to win, you walk away with $150,000. If you bet $100 on Oregon to win, you'll have $100.02. Two cents on a one hundred dollar bet! The line now sits at 52.5. Not seeing an over-under total, which is not uncommon with these games.

Am I getting old? My wonderful wife offered to take me to the bar to watch the game at 9:30...PM. I'm not so sure I want to head downtown that late anymore. I'm usually leaving the bars by 10 - 10:30 when I do go out anymore.
Anyways, my buddies say I won't even make it that late because the Hawkeye game starts at 11AM. I'll do my best. Glad football is finally here.

And good point earlier about this could be the toughest opponent in USD history. That Wisconsin team was so amazing, though, like you said.

Wisconsin was amazing and a lot of articles forget and aren't mentioning that they also had JJ Watts.

Good catch obc! You are right about Watt a year earlier. I thought I remembered him playing against the Yotes. That's what I get for getting old!

Iowa 37 UNI. 10 ISU. 27 NDSU. 13 ILLINOIS 45 YSU 7 I agree - I think the MVFC teams go 0-3 in those, with NDSU having the best chance.

Iowa State didn't show up after the 1st quarter. Bison fans with another win over a FBS school will now be more unbearable than they already are.

I was also hoping they'd lose too, just so that the noise from Fargo would be a bit quieter. Nevertheless, it's yet another great win for the conference and means we may still have a shot at endin their win streak.
