It's time to start a new thread and get going on this weeks opponent, Montana. The Griz beat D-2 Central Washington last night 48-14. The game was over at half, with Montana leading 34-0. Statistically, Montana had a strong run game of nearly 300 yards along with enough passing yards to keep balance. My guess is they haven't shown anything yet. In week one, Wyoming beat them 17-12, and last night I watched Wyoming beat Air Force by the score of 17-13. I don't think this is the typical Air Fprce team we have seen in the past, but nonetheless, they are a respected Mid Major D-1 program. In order for us to get the win, we are going to have to shore up our defensive line, and quick. We here handled at times by William Penn, and I know we are missing some starters, but if we don't get this fixed it could be a long night.
I was in Missoula two years ago when we played them hard to till the middle of the third quarter, and that was our weakest team we've had by far. We are better, but I seems like most named programs in FCS are a lot better as well. FBS schools are not going to continue playing FCS teams if it continues to level out. But back to Montana, we are going to have to control their defensive line of scrimmage with our O line. I was out at Oregon, and we did a really nice job on them, and yesterday vs. William Penn, our O line was again the strength of our team.
I really want to go it there and beat this team. If we could do that, the confidence level would soar amongst our players. It really has to be one week at a time with the Coyotes. We need to make progress each and every week. If we can do that, I feel we will get our share of wins in the Valley. But our run defense needs to make huge strides. I was pleased with our secondary yesterday, and the two pass interference calls were absolutely horse shit. Terrible calls. If that was a Valley crew, the person responsible for evaluating crews needs to look at those calls. Horrible. Not even close. Ok, back to Montana....let's go bear hunting.
