Last night the good lord called home maybe the greatest Coyote of all time...Moose Merrigan. Anybody that came to Vermillion and played football from the early 60's on knew Moose personally. He made it his business to get to know you. Moose loved the Coyotes. He and his family would host a pig roast every spring after the spring game, and it was without a doubt the highlight of the year. We had so much fun.
Yet Moose had a serious side as well. He expected to win, and never understood when a potential athlete wouldn't sign with the Coyotes. Moose made being a Coyote special. He made you part of his family. He worked his tail off raising money back in the days where raising money wasn't as sophisticated as it is today. And Moose gave. He gave his money, his time, and anything else he had that would benefit USD.
Moose might be one of the toughest SOB's to enter heaven. As I said in an email to over 50 former players, you can bet the farm there's gonna be a pig roast in heaven hosted by Moose and Beanie. To the MERRIGAN family, my condolences. Your father was special. You're a special family.
