All I know is that they are an NAIA team soon to be Division II team along with Black Hills State. They are a decent NAIA team, but nothing that should really compete with USD. I sure hope they are better than Mayville State and not the thugs that William Penn were.

BHSU and Tech are both transitioning to D2? So are Minot and USF. I think were going to be seeing the formation of another upper midwest D2 conference alongside the NSIC. I wonder, is this weaker version of the NSIC going to limit their football scholarships? NCSIC limit is 24, what is the newbie gonna be? 12?

I think BHSU and SD Mines are both going to try and get in to the RMAC instead and USF and Minot are going for the NSIC. Not sure about that though.

Both of those schools would be good for the RMAC and I wish them the best in wherever they go. Hopefully they can both have success in D2. Before the breakup of the NCC there were 4 D2 programs in the state, and 5 if you count Morningside who was just across the border. There will soon be 5 D2 schools in South Dakota alone and I think Morningside should move back up to D2.

Yep, 5 D2 schools and none of them fully funding their programs. The NCC was great, but D2 has gone way downhill, I'll agree with the 'SU fans on that one.

Yeah D2 is really getting watered down. I mean seriously, Augie just made the playoffs and had their best season ever and Duluth won it all after USD left. There is a big difference in being a good D1 team and a good D2 team.

I understand the Augie argument but the Duluth argument does not hold the same weight. Outside the footprint of the NSIC and NCC what happened to the breakup of the NCC holds minimal significance. D2 outside of the upper midwest didn't suddenly become weaker because of the Dakota 4 moving on. UMD's accomplishment is still very good regardless because they beat the best in the nation not just in the direct area affected by the Big School defections.
If this years UMD team played USD's exact schedule this year I say with confidence that they would finish at least 2-6 against the FCS programs and probably better.

yeah absolutely doubt that. Maybe UND or UNC? But I think both of those teams would be UMD. Lamar might be their only win.

Not much to say about the women's game.
Tempestt Wilson looks like a good addition. The team did have trouble making three's but I don't expect that to continue. USD's defense was GREAT once again.
For the men's game...
THANK YOU JAKE THOMAS! 8 Three pointers. WOW. That was 50 percent as well for him from long range. Jeez the kid can shoot. Josh Mueller would be wowed by his range.
Nice to see Louie hit some shots as well. Without those two, this game could've been SCARY!
This lack of an inside game is very scary right now. 4 rebounds by a few people, 6 by Gruis at least. Yikes. What happened to Conrad Krutwig? Jeez.
USD is really going to have to rely on that outside shooting from Thomas this year as Gruis develops.

Watched the game last night and have to agree about our inside game (or lack thereof). I understand that the team is young inside and we are going to a smaller lineup but I expected a little more than what I saw last night. It was an exhibition against Tech so thought they would work it inside on the offensive side. That didn't happen and is somewhat scary. Their interior defense wasn't much better. I will give them more time but our offense had zero inside game and no attempt was really made to do the same. On the bright side, it was nice to see the shooting and people step up when needed. The big horse, Westbrook, was shut down and others picked up the slack. All in all it was just an exhibition. No doubt we can stroke it from the outside. I also enjoyed watching the young guys get a chance to play. Coach Boots made a great comment. Tyler Cain only played about 3 minutes in his first game with the Yotes. Our young guys will develop. Good times ahead.
I also enjoyed the interview with David Sayler. Our athletic department is in great hands.

I'm confused about Boots saying they have no post game. You gotta get them some touches first. You can't have the post up at the top of the key for most of the second half and expect a low post game. His placing the post at the top of the key did nothing but plug up the 3 point line for the guards. It appears the coaching staff is so convinced that we don't have a low post game they are unwilling to allow the post to be in the paint and post up.

Big discrepancy in Westbrook's stats between Huskers & Hardrockers games. 24 points in 29 minutes with 4 fouls against the Huskers vs 0 points in 18 minutes and 3 fouls against the Hardrockers. Wasn't at the game and don't have access to Midco Sports so have no idea why. Would appreciate any comments.

Charlie is an open floor player. The Hardrockers did a good job of turning the game into a half court game.
USD runs a weave or high screen up top to free up the shooters. After one or two passes the shot goes up, usually from long distance.
Not much of a chance to get to the hole for Charlie. Boots has not yet run iso plays for him to take his man off the dribble. He might need to hit the boards to get his points in the half court game.

USD as a team is very likely to start slow this year and that is ok. They definately have some kinks to work out and it's mostly with getting everyone together on the same page. I like the mismatches that the 3 or 4 guard offense can cause to an opponent. I believe USD's style of offense will struggle against the major power programs but will be effective against the mid majors.
By far the most important part of the season will be USD's effort to defend their Great West Conference title. I believe this team will have more chemistry once January rolls around. I would rather the Yotes show their growing pains now and to round into form in a month or so.
