It all starts with the head coach USDLAW. The whole mindset and atmosphere revolves around him. These kids are becoming soft because the head coach is soft. They rarely practice outside any more, and it shows. Ed may have brought "thugs" to the university, but its not like Joe Glenn is bringing great guys to the University either. And when boosters threaten to not donate, change gets made much faster. It did at UNL and continues to be an effective way to get things done. I will continue to support the players as well, but I'm tired of seeing the same coaching mistakes happen over and over. Learn how to keep a lead. Its not hard. Coach to win instead of Coaching not to lose. There is a huge difference. The whole USD tax scandal has much more to it than just the Florida boys that got in trouble for it. I'm not going to use names, but some of them were used as scape goats to protect certain players and families reputations. I find it hard to believe that USD could or would interfere with a Federal investigation.

Congratulations to Miles Bergner! Now let's see if a few other players can step up the rest of the season. I still think a change in quarterbacks should be explored since we seem to be "doing the same things expecting different results". I may be wrong but believe Earl's running yardage was in the negative range. If we can't pass or gain much yardage with our current backs, why not try Saeger, if not in the first half, then the second? I really think Bergner's feet and Saeger's legs may net us a win next week.

For what it's worth the Jacks after today are 2-3 in the conference and just as easily could be 0=5 if not for pulling out 2 last minute wins. And their program is been D1 for years. The Yotes are not that far away. Remember Youngstown is no slouch team ranked 11th in the country. The Yotes just need to play complete games. The D is world beaters many plays but then give up too many big yardage TDs and plays. The offense just needs to consistently move the ball and not turn it over. Seems that many pass patterns require difficult throws and catches instead of higher percentage pass plays 5-6 yards and let the back or receiver break a tackle and let the QBs get in rhythm. Glenn deserves two more recruiting years before he is judged rebuilding the program. I agree. We should be mad we lost the lead, but everyone is acting like we lost to an average or terrible team. We got beat by the #11 team in the nation. We showed some signs of improvement. Offense was pretty nonexistent for awhile. That really killed us on defense. I think the offense had 5 three and outs in a row in the first half. With so many three and outs, the defense just completely wore out. Earl was way off on many passes, then some he actually hit them in the hands and they couldn't catch them. Maybe it would be worth a shot to throw Saeger out there again. The times Earl would take off and run, he wasn't fast enough to get anywhere. Offensive line struggled pretty bad at times. I know we have a few injuries but as someone on here said, we need to be much deeper on the offensive and defensive line. Defensively like someone said we looked good at times but then gave up way too many big plays. We still can't contain the edge very well and our pass coverage is very scary at times. The pressure on the QB is still pretty nonexistent. We have got to get in the QBs face more. Great game for Myles Bergner today! Very good kicking and lots of good punts both with and against the wind.

That game was ours to take, and we looked lost when it was time to put it away. I think that is reflective of the complete lack of leadership in the program.
Yeah, these guys were a great team, but the game was nearly handed to us and we blew it

I'm going to simply say that I'm not very happy with the way things are going. That game was ours to win today and that didn't happen. We need to get better.

Maybe all the coaches should come and evaluate everyone on this board and how they do their job! Guarantee half of you would be considered fired! Love how everyone on here thinks they know how to coach but none of us has the balls to be in the profession and that's because most of us on here don't know much about coaching but think we all have the answers! Worry about your job and make sure you do it well enough before you judge others!!

Worry about your job and make sure you do it well enough before you judge others!! I'm glad someone posted this kind of response. When we went Division 1, this is what happens. Everything from basketball to facilities to womens soccer gets put under the microscope, like it or not. So when your football team goes 0-23 in outdoor games, and only 3 MVC wins, its going to draw attention big time. And we don't even have one of the biggest fan bases compared to other programs. Heck I have even watched our womens volleyball team play on tv when they played North Dakota, if we were still D 2 I can honestly say I would not have tuned in, I would have been curious of the outcome, but not watched it at all. My point is, our football team is under the microscope big time. And I would assume that most of us know what it takes to be successful, whether it be in our own jobs or on the football field. So ask yourself this, if in our own jobs, we made the same mistakes over and over and over again would we still be employed?. We don't have to be football coaches to figure out what it takes to be a sucessful on the field, all we have to do is look to the north. Time for a major shake up!!

I like the coaching staff for the most part but it is quite clear that certain changes must be made.

Oh that is smart lets tell boosters to stop giving money. That will help a struggling program pay more to bring new coaches in. Did you graduate from SDSU with that type of thinking and attitude. You missed the news. SDSU boosters have been very supportive and continue to give in steadily increasing amounts. You know about the facilities improvements and amount of donated money for those facilities. Trying to encourage USD alums and boosters to step up to the plate by holding out SDSU as an example of how NOT to support one's team seems odd. How about something like 'if SDSU can do X, USD can do 2X'? Within a year or two of our new football stadium opening, SDSU will have more season ticket holders than there are seats in the DakotaDome. (And we will likely still fall short of selling as many season tickets as NDSU, but we'll keep working on that.)

I started reading this thread for some news and comment on the YSU game. I was in the FargoDome yesterday sitting in the visiting fan corner and there were some score updates of the YSU at USD game. The SDSU fans around me were interested in USD winning that game, and disappointed with YSU turning it around. I thought YSU is a balanced team and they've proved themselves deserving of their national ranking. I know: no moral victories but sounds like it was a good tussle much of the way. The USD at SDSU game is shaping up to be a good one.

Something I forgot about but feel like bringing up now: What was up with the attendance for this game? It looked like there were more people on the field than in the stands. Does Youngstown State have fans? Then the posted attendance is over 8k? If anyone had any doubts that teams can declare whatever attendance they want, look no further than this one.

Was going to bring that up earlier. There was nobody in the main grandstand. Saw that with the crowd shots many times.

I know that some of the responses here are a little extreme. On one hand it's nice to see some passion from our fanbase. (We havent always had that and need more of it) On the other hand if we are going to say Glenn does not have what it takes anymore by looking at the record alone I feel that is unfair.
The program is so far behind other MVFC teams simply becuase of the transition process. It takes so long to get the revenue stream on the same level as other teams in the confernece. Some of that falls on the conference and NCAA profit sharing that hasnt stated yet, and the rest is on the University for not putting money into the program. It's tough to recruit a kid that is getting multiple in person visits from other schools in the conference but because of our lack of funding we can only make phone calls.
The other problem I have is game day atmosphere. Our announcer is horrible. He allows the dome to sit there and talk about the crops for 60 minutes. Play more music between time outs and quarter breaks. Quit having a subway sandwhich and coffee cup race on the video board at the end of the 3rd quarter. Maybe tell fans to get on their feet more than 3 times a game by playing music and things to get them involved. All of that lands on the Unversity. Create a better game day atomopshere. A lot of that starts by getting rid of the people in game day positions that have done those jobs for the past 30 years and do not create a D1 atmosphere or mindset on gamedays.
Quit restricting the number of people that can get tailgating spots. We should be begging people to come down and tailgate not turning them away because we are saying our spots are sold out. (some to the Republican Party so Rounds can have his bus there on Ddays for 3 hours and then it sits empty for the other 5 games) This also lands on the University. Game day atmosphere is significantly better in the other Dakota schools because they are not making these mistakes.
Glenn is doing a lot right now for the program and taking a lot of heat while doing it. I agree Wes needs to go. we need to hire better assistants by giving better salaries. This is not an FBS program. Glenn does not have as much control over the assistants as you think. He is handcuffed a little bit on these issues. Keep Glenn. The game has not passed him by. He just does not have the resources to do what he needs to do right now in Vermillion. My opinion almost all of the assistants need to go. Bring in some better talent at the assistant coaching positions. Pump some money into the program and make the right decisions with assistants that are not hand me down past players and family friends. I also agree telling donars to quit giving until there are changes only sets the program back further.
We have a good following for games for losing as much as we have in the past couple years. In 2012 when SDSU played Eastern Illinois in a home playoff game there were 4,300 fans at the game. Whats that going to look like when they have a 19,000 seat stadium and there are 4,300 fans for a big game like that in Nov. We have done a much better job supporting the Univesity right now through some bad times in a much smaller community.
Its easy for NDSU to travel like they do when they are undefeated and the 3 time defending champion. It's easy to follow your team when they are winning. How many fans traveled for NDSU when they were 3-8 in 2009? In the early 2000's they averaged around 11,000 fans at games. We need to continue to support the football program even if they have not provided results yet. If we abandon them now with donar money etc, would be a major setback. I do like that we are finally getting passionate about what we want done. We need more of it.
