It seems like Pelini would have a lot bigger offers than Youngstown State and the only way I could see him going there is if he is looking for a change of pace and a significant pay cut by doing so. Is there a connection between Pelini and Tressel? I would be surprised if this happened and it would mean bad news for the rest of the MVFC if he did. Sorry Husker fans but the guy is a good coach and I'm not sure you are going to get anything better just by replacing him. No one wants to play in the cold anymore hence why the entire big 10 is down significantly the last 10 years and a guy that can get you 9-3 every year is doing a good job. I'm from Youngstown, born and raised. With the huge buyout of my contract I am receiving from Nebraska ($7.5M), I'm not really in it for the money any longer and don't care about the pay cut. Just looking to 'go back home' and live a more quiet lifestyle.

He did very well as a DC at a few power 5 schools, and then had a fantastic record as a HC (make of it what you will). If he is headed to Youngstown, it's certainly not because he couldn't do any better.

I believe pelini's buyout is offset by any coaching earnings. So unless he is making more than the buyout it is not a pay cut. He could go to YSU for 100k, and still be making NU coin for 4 years and take a bigger gig for after that.

There is an offset but there is also a scale that is used when factoring another jobs pay. i.e. He can't just go be a DC for some school for $1 a year and leave Nebraska on the hook for the full buyout, there is a minimum salary assigned to his new position that is used as the offset number. I don't know what taking an FCS head job means as it pertains to his Nebraska buyout but from a career advancement perspective he would be committing professional suicide by going to YSU. The best thing for him to do would be to sit out a year and see what head positions open up in a year. A Mountain West or CUSA head position, if not a head job at a mid to lower Power 5 school, or taking a DC position at a top SEC or PAC 12 school would be his best options.

if he makes the league average in the MVFC he will get $300-350K/year then Nebraska needs to pay him the balance to get him to $3 million for 2 years. awesome move, Tressel & Pelini sticking it to Nebraska.

I'm guessing I will hear him cussing from my seats in the dome next year!

Can't wait to tell him everything I have thought for the last 7 years (really 3) on the sidelines from the Dome.

@coachdantharp: Bo Pelini is going to walk into the Dakotadome and wonder what he did to deserve to have his team changing in a hallway

Dressing at Frost and having to walk across the parking lot to that hole of a stadium in Brookings is so much classier, huh?
