It is great that two MVFC teams are in the national championship game! Truly the MV is the SEC of FCS! Reminds me of the old NCC when the Coyotes met the Bison for the D2 title. After that they didn't put the NCC in two different brackets. They tried to do that in pairing SDSU and NDSU as well as ISU and UNI in the second round, but look what happened anyways.

It's a great thing for the conference, it really is, but maybe not such a great hing for USD if we don't make the financial commitments that it takes to fund this program. It does put into perspective just how close SDSU really is to being an elite team. In fact, you could build an argument they are there.
My point is we have to recruit against State, and NDSU and UNI....and they are going to paint a picture of gloom at USD, which might derail many prospects. The longer we waddle, the further behind we get. We really need a statement from those in charge saying $xxxx amount of money is being funded, and that USD is adding coaches to the staff. Things like that. We really need some sort of announcements over time, not all at once, telling the world we intend to compete.
I really believe with all my heart we are truly at a crossroads with football. Saying nothing, doing nothing will damage us big time.

State had a very good team but will have difficulty reloading right away, losing their best RB ever and one of their best QBs and their other SRs. I agree we need to make more of a commitment to FB with additional funds but believe the dome is a better draw already than an indoor practice facility and an artificial turf field which everyone has already. Adding the BB arena and complex I believe will also help draw FB recruits to some extent. USD's campus is far more attractive then state's. Obviously a winning program will be the biggest draw.

Does the athletic department leadership see it this way is what I am curious about.

Looks like NDSU has pulled off the 4 peat. I was really hoping to see Illinois State win the title, but it just wasn't meant to be. It was a fantastic game to watch, a great cap to the unprecedented season for the MVFC.

An all out blitz by IS with a minute left and the Bison 38 yds away isn't the defensive play call I'd have made. It allowed man coverage and the QB to just throw a blooper ball up for grabs. The DB got all turned around at the 5 and the Bison receiver makes the catch. It was a very competitive game and did show the quality of the teams in the MVFC that tied for the conference title.

I think it will be interesting to see how tough it will be for SDSU to reload. They do lose Zenner. I hear they have a couple of young guys in the wings but they won't be Zenner so there will be a drop off( how many times do you hear bad things about recruiting classes or younger players coming up?). We played 7 games this year without our QB. We were better when he was playing but we did OK with a guy that was only on campus for only 3 month when Sumner got injured. We probably would have beaten YSU on Hobo Day with Sumner and Schneider but neither of them played and we lost by 3 points(I think). Schneider did play the last several games of the year but he wasn't really healthy. As a junior, he was a 1000 yard receiver but he was held back his senior year. They do lose 2 OL so we will have to see what happens there. Our defense should be better next year. I think we will only lose two starters from the last few games of the season. We will lose a DE and a safety. We should have everybody else back and hopefully they get better in the offseason. I did hear the a CB is leaving the team but he was #4 on the depth chart. The top three all return so I think he left to get a chance to play more. Special teams will probably take a hit. We lose both our kicker and punter. They both have several years of starting experience. I know we have a Vinatieri coming in but I don't think he is like his uncle. I guess we will see what we have there next year.
