I didn't bring up the Argus. I was talking about what I heard (or I guess, didn't hear) on ESPN 99.1

Sorry ctc wasn't trying to call you out.
My only point was to any reference of bias above between SDSU and USD when the example is a home game in Sioux Falls vs a road game. I don't necessarily disagree with the existence of bias, just saying the evidence cited to was bad for making a valid argument.

We have been complaining about coverage of the Coyotes in Sioux Falls for as long as I can remember. In my opinion there's 2 good reasons it is that way. First, until we beat SDSU in most to every sport on a consistent basis, it's going to be that way. To cure it, you beat them, period.
Secondly, the SF fan base for the Coyotes is lethargic at best. There are some die hards that come to most games, and it's not to you I'm saying this, but the stream of traffic from SF to Vermillion on game day is horse shit. And it's to bad because we have a great time prior to, during, and after the games. It's a great social setting and a superb way to back the Coyotes and your university. The cure? Unfortunately, the only cure I know of is winning. The problem is we need fan support to build the base to create fan excitement that helps the teams play better when crowd noise is loud and sustained.
If you truly want the Coyotes to be a regional brand, in many sport, it takes commitment from the fan base. Once that's built, momentum then builds and creates game day excitement, which in turn eventually brings the media. Quite honestly, the Sioux city market draws as many fans, and the Sioux City Journal has been very good to USD since it's transition. Barry Poe pens most articles, and for the most part, does an excellent job.
Football is a great example of where fan interest wanes as the season goes on. I agree, it sucks to lose, but winning takes time, especially in football, but that doesn't mean we stay away from the Dome, or the new arena just because we aren't contending for a title. Lastly, to me, if you don't come to games or support them in any way, then I don't think you should be critical. To me, that's like complaining about politicians yet never voting.
I'll stay away from football commentary for now, but if you want to jump on board the Craig Smith or Amy Williams train, nows the time. Get used to supporting the Coyotes on a regular basis. Go with friends. Have supper before or after a game. Make it an event. But jump on board. We have to turn this around....now

You make a good point about the coverage in Sioux City yoteforever. They do a really good job. Sometimes they have more/better coverage than the SF media does which is confusing.
Why do we not do a better job at marketing ourselves? With Sioux City and Yankton so close we should draws tons of people from those areas. I live in SF and grew up about 40 minutes North of Yankton and still go around those areas quite a bit. SC not so much. I never see posters or advertising in Yankton when I am there. A couple billboards is all. Every single retail store in Yankton like Hy-Vee should have 20 sports posters hung up in their entry ways. It would be something really cheap and easy to do. I know they have Mount Marty but we need to brand Yankton for sure with as much red as possible so its at the top of their mind every time they go get milk. There are 10 times the billboards and advertising for state around. Is there budget really that much bigger and if so why? Does our marketing department need to talk with the B school about the importance of marketing and branding? Or are we just so lazy that we just expect people to come without getting their attention. IMO that is a big reason for the lack of a following other than losing which I agree does not help. I lot of people I talk to feel that the university is not donig enough to get their attention or make it seem like they give a $hit.

USD markets to Sioux City pretty dang well, as they should since there are alot of USD students and graduates in Sioux City. There are billboards and advertisements and there also used to be a lot of advertising at the Southern Hills Mall (I don't know if there still is since I haven't been there in ages). There is also the fact that USD games are aired on 620 AM which is the main sports station in the city and have a regular segment on the local sports radio show. South Dakotans just don't see it because they aren't down here in the SE part of the state and in Iowa. The Journal also does a good job on coverage as well as do the local TV stations.
