Need I say more? James Hunter needs to be the X-factor tonight if the Yotes want to continue to climb the Summit. Larson had a poor shooting night yesterday but I have a feeling he's ready for a big game.

We need Bos or Kasperbauer to get hot again tonight. Hunter needs to play his game inside and be a monster on the boards. I think Larson will get his points no matter what, he quietly scored 20+ last week in Vermillion. But we need Hunter and Sparks to bang on him every time he touches the ball.

Imagine how good this team would be with a Cody Larson or Forbes on the team. Maybe next year. I just wish we had Bos and Larson back for one more year.

Definitely gonna miss Bos and Larson next year. I think we're gonna miss Hunter too though. He's really come on strong late in the year. He only plays around 13-15 minutes and has been playing REALLY well. Foul trouble had been a problem all year but he didn't pick up a single foul in the first half against IPFW.

The big game tonight is only just over an hour away. Admittedly the Jacks fans were very loud during their women's game and created a high volume on sheer numbers. The Coyotes fans will be able to help the Yotes but the Jacks will get a huge boost from their crowd. It will probably be about a 70% to 30% ratio but that is better than it was at Frost. Hopefully the NDSU fans will cheer for the Coyotes which will probably be the case. Actually they probably won't cheer much at all either way. There hasn't been much of a boost for any teams fans cheering for a particular team or another when they aren't cheering on their own team. The Jacks will probably play much how they normally do at home which is not a good thing for the Coyotes tonight. With that said the Yotes now have a ton of confidence going into tonight and also have alot of confidence against the Jacks. They have put their best back to back games of the season together in the last two played. I think the Jacks overall shooting percentage is gonna be the key to the game. If they shoot it well it's gonna be very tough. If they don't and start to get the same feel they had in Vermillion the Coyotes should be right in the game and have a chance to win. James Hunter will be an important key in this one. If he can neutralize Larson like he did against Forbes that would once again turn this into a guard oriented game which I like the Coyotes chances in that senario.
My opinion is that the Yotes will probably fall short in this one. My opinion is also that the Coyotes going forward are going to be a top level Summit team under Smith. I think if they can get in the opposite bracket from the Jacks it would help matters greatly. The goal next year should be to capture one of the top 3 seeds to make the overall task a little easier. I like the players that the Yotes have but they have over achived this year. When they improve the talent level and keep improving the depth I like this program in the future.

Well, State can't miss and U can't buy a bucket. Pretty much the worst start imaginable. State is playing very good D, and have hardly played their starters. I'm afraid we are gonna be gassed and they will be fresh in the 2nd half. Look for a heavy dose of long ball possessions and Cody Larson down low. They will need to miss every foul shot for us to even have a hope.

Hard to beat a team that hits 49% of fg and 44% of threes.

The Jacks shot it lights out from 3 which carried them in the first half. They didn't even need Larson as they were killing the Yotes from long distance. The Coyotes had so many rim outs and just couldn't catch much of a break in the first half. Even the usually reliable free throw shooting let the Coyotes down. The Yotes were playing hard just not executing well. The first half by SDSU was like the first half that USD put on IPFW yesterday. I guess what disappoints me the most isn't the first half because those things happen, but rather how the Coyotes reacted at halftime. They showed no heart in the second half and barely hinted at a comeback. Isn't an automatic bid at stake. The Coyotes basically gave up at halftime. Why is it that a guard oriented team can't use the full court press better than what the Coyotes do. Maybe it's just not Smith's style. I don't understand why the Coyotes waited until 5:00 to go and down 20 to finally show some full court pressure. For being small as often as they are the Coyotes don't use transition or pressure to their advantage like they should.
It's really too bad that the Coyote fans never really had a chance to get into the game. The Yotes couldn't put together multiple possessions of scoring without the Jacks countering. I never felt the energy from the crowd as I did during the IPFW game and during the women's game this afternoon.
Things didn't go well today but I do like the future of the program. Lets get some more athletic bigs and some guards that can replace Bos and Larson and things will look real bright.

I thought the men played hard throughout the game. They just were in such a hole that they couldn't dig themselves out or get a bucket when it was really needed. It would have taken a near perfect game to beat the Jacks tonight, and the Yotes ended up with probably their worst shooting performance of the year. I give it up to the Jacks, they shot lights out and played great D.
