I've heard that Colby Felts is going to be the running backs coach as well. This guy calls himself coach and has all USD stuff up. The picture looks like a high school kid, however. GA? Paid/fulltime? Anybody know anything about him? twitter.com/CoachFelts |

Met Coach Felts the other day in the football offices. This is what I know based on talking with him (had a really nice conversation), other coaches, and the internet.
4.0 honors student graduating in only 3 years and turned down medical school to coach. Des Moines Register had him with a 35 ACT coming out of high school (for those that don't know, 36 is the highest possible). He said he is originally from LeMars, Iowa and went to school at Remsen-Union (play and coached there). Talking to him you can tell he is an extremely mature kid (was initially worried about his age) and full of energy.
Coaches talked about him as a guy that's first in the office and last out. Started out with film last year and re-organized the entire department. Learned the playbook extremely quickly and has been sort of a student assistant quality control every since. Noted he is very detailed and schematically intelligent. Assisted with game plan and even helped call a few plays (Coach Glenn said his first was a wide open pass play for 20 some yards). Essentially Coach Rindahl's right hand man throughout the season. From what I understand once Coach Rindahl left, they offered the job to Felts. I'm assuming its a GA job.
Think that there are still 2 more positions to be filled on the staff, Joe Ford's and Ryan Jirgl's jobs. Anyone have any information on new coaches for those positions?

Maybe coach felts can be the Peter Brand of Moneyball for USD. Hopefully he has tons of spreadsheets and formulas created that they will use to give us the best possible chance of winning all our games next year with the players we have.
He sounds like a smart guy that hopefully will make an impact next year.
