Reworking the defense and moving some guys around might lead to some better play, but it also shows how lost we were last year. Let's hope they find their way as a unit this year, and also that the offense can help keep them off the field.
Sounds like Kevin Earl hasn't been practicing due to a back injury. I hope he can come back and have a great senior year. He seemed poised to take a great step forward last year only to have the whole season go off the tracks halfway through the season opener.
Spring game a week from today. I'm excited to get an early look of what the Yotes may look like in 2015.

Interested to see what Moreland can do at Strong Safety. The kid has a mind for the game and is very athletic

Doesn't sound good. Any news on the injuries to Bouma and Kilgore?

It's spring and this squad is already a M.A.S.H. unit. The Yotes have been severely bitten by the injury bug for years. I realize injuries are a part of the game but it is getting almost comical.

Do we have a strength and conditioning problem?

I may be a little biased, but I think the strength and conditioning coaches do well with the resources they have. It is not an uncommon practice to keep guys who were banged up in the fall out of spring ball. Spring ball seems like its more of an evaluator for the coachea anyway. Gives them an opportunity to see what guys have improved over the winter and to plug in some guys who were maybe on the cusp of playing time or trying to plug holes from departing seniors. Remember, the issue that set us back the most last year was a thumb....a flipping thumb. And a defense that couldnt stop a nose bleed.

True golfingyote, but injuries at RB have been an issue for this staff since day one.

True golfingyote, but injuries at RB have been an issue for this staff since day one. True, could also be an issue with the amount of contact in practice(not enough-translating to not used to the beating a college rb takes?). There are a number of things you could look at. 2 years ago Jasper was hurt in a freak accident. That left us with 2 freshmen who hadnt played a down of college football and led to them getting banged up in the most physical conference in the country. As an outsider, its really hard to point to one thing, while at the same time its hard not to be curious if something behind the scenes isnt quite right with the way the team is trained/prepared.

Right now we are taking defensive backs and making them into running backs because we are so low. We are so low on offensive lineman we may not have enough for a spring game. Seriously, the joke is that the spring game may be a 7 on 7 pass skellie. Our starting QB's future status is in question due to injury. There are injuries in football, I get that, but this squad has been extraordinarily beat down with injuries. Somebody hit it on the head earlier, we are too young. Our team has been too young for years and they take a physical beating when going up against more mature, physical teams in our conference. Players go down and the only alternative is to plug in even younger players, because that is what we have for backups. I get building a solid core through recruiting freshman, but I think we need to start also hitting the JUCO route pretty heavily in order to get mature players in who are ready to go Day 1, at least until our freshman have some time to grow into the program.

Brandt Van Roekel, a wide receiver that started some games last year, is out with a shoulder injury. Hopefully he is back by fall, as he is a tall, lanky, athletic player. Got his feet wet last season, and hopefully makes an impact this season.

I feel bad I haven't made it over to check out a practice yet, but is Ramsey full go this spring? That's the guy I'm really excited about watching.
