Didn't want to start a new thread, but check out goyotes.com to see the new and improved web-page. It is nicely done. One item of significant note is an announcement that there will be "free live video" of all home football and men's and women's basketball games starting this fall. It also says it will include a free web-stream of live home events. Good stuff and certainly echoes many of the requests from posters in earlier threads. The free video is awsome. I will certainly take advantage of that.

Anyone on the fence for season tickets is going say " why would I buy tickets when I can watch for free"? Not to pick on coyotefan but his response sums it up. He will watch on the Internet rather than come to games. And do will several others. Huge mistake in my opinion. I could see a $25/game charge, but not free. Am I alone on this?

The athletic department just got a huge increase in funding from a student vote so I'm sure that makes the decision a little easier. I don't know details but I wouldn't be surprised if the streaming is much improved this upcoming year as well. For football it would be nice to see people travel since there are only a few home games, but it's not realistic to expect people to go to every home basketball game. Keep in mind they can always sell advertising/sponsorships as part of the broadcast. I believe it was around $10 a month for all-access streaming last year. $25 to watch a game online is ridiculous.

Great spring special by Midco. I am a Midco subscriber primarily for their coverage of Coyote and regional sports. Live too far away to attend many Coyote games and highly recommend Midco to any Coyote fan in a similar situation. Yoteforever you have a good point about fans on the fence not buying season tickets if they get free TV. As for myself if I lived 200 miles away instead of 400 I'd be a season ticket holder. The Dome is a great place to watch FB and obviously the new BB complex will be first rate also!

CTC, $25/game is probably out of bounds, I agree. I just threw a number out there to make a point. I'm not going to be argumentive on this topic if the majority feel like it's the right thing to do. My point is we already struggle to get fans to games anyway, and I feel that this decision only makes it easier to stay home. I understand your argument about distance from Vermillion, for me it's 250 miles round trip each game.but I don't have access to Midco. From a business model, on the surface, it doesn't make sense to me. I think, and I hope I'm wrong, that we are going to see people (within easy driving range) elect not to pay for tickets when they can stay home and watch it on tv. Realistically you won't make a lot of games due to distance, and given your loyalty to the Coyotes, it's a great deal, and I really am happy you get to watch games. But we struggle in selling season tickets, and I feel this will put a bigger damper on sales. However, there might be an argument that TV rights to broadcast might be enough to make up that potential loss, I simply don't know the facts. What would the increase in student fees have to do with this decision? Are they somehow tied togethet? Not arguing, I'm asking if anyone knows? At the end of the day, I'm happy you and several others get to watch the games. And if the plan is revenue neutral, then it isn't worth arguing about anyway. I just raised a point that I think we made it convenient for people close by to not come. Another consideration is that athletes like to play in front of fans, and I don't think they care if 1000 people are watching at home. Crowds create home court/field advantages. To me, I'm going to go to all home football games anyway. And I'm going to make as many basketball games as I can, For you, it's a great deal and I get it. I just want to make the point that we've had trouble getting attendance anyway, and once the novelty of the new arena is over I just hope most fans would rather be live than watch on TV, but I'm betting against that. Anyway, it's not worth arguing about I guess, because at the end of the day, more people can watch the YOTES.

I think the free streaming will be a net positive. Nearly (if not) all of our home football games as well as a good number of basketball games were on Midco\ESPN3 last year, and would anyone say that really hurt attendance? It's my guess that the AD studied the results of having a large portion of their home games available online for free, saw some satisfying numbers, and decided to go ahead and make all the home events free.
There are individuals within travel distance of Verm who will opt to sit in front of their computer or tv rather than see the event in person, but I bet there are far more individuals who are outside of travel distance that would be interested in catching the Yote games.
I know I enjoy when the away teams we are playing have free online streaming. It really is becoming kind of common for all the low to mid major teams. I am certainly of the opinion that this will help the brand far more than it hurts the attendance.

I think its good. The midco example is a great way to look at it. More and more games are on midco but attendence seems to be going up for home events. The free exposure is good and needed.
I cant imagine too many people paid for that coyotevision service anyway. When I purchased it last year to say upgrades were needed is an understatment. So if they are improving it and making it free I too would think more money could be made on advertising with it than membership. Even if its a thrown in benefit for businesses supporting the Yotes already. At the end of the day you cant tailgate on TV or take a shot of buffalo sweat at Pro's on TV so people will still show up for that atmosphere I think.
Another nice recent upgrade the athletics department is making.

Another thing to remember is that a lot of the streaming viewers are the athletes' families who might live hundreds (or in some case, thousands) of miles away.

As the football program stands now there is zero chance I will be in attendance for those games. For basketball a better chance but honestly not real often. The Summit Tourney is pretty much a sure things for me. When I believe this University administration shows a real effort to put together a competitive program I will eventually come back to football but for principal reasons I will not support a dumpster fire.

I look at the financial side of the business and see a hole. But I'm willing to back off on this issue and examine the positives of this deal. I will be positive on it and move on. One last parting shot on the negative is that an unnamed poster on this board will watch for free then come on here posting all that is wrong with Coyote athletics.
If you guys are happy with it, ok. I just hate to think of supporting such a dumpster fire. I think I'm pulling out and waiting till we get someone as our coach that knows something.

Wow, disappointing to see fans like this. They care enough to come to a message board, but not enough to support them with attendance and financially.
I will admit I am a new Coyote fan, my son committed to play football there starting this fall. Since he committed we have attended a couple of basketball games, on campus and at the summit league tournament. We just joined the Howling Pack and purchased a couple items off of their recent online silent auction. I feel as a fan it is my responsibility to support the athletic department, not just football. If you want things to change you need to support them. The athletic department will not change as fast as you would like them to, if they can't see the support from the fan base. The "silent treatment" or ignoring someone may work with your spouse or significant other, but it does not work in this situation. Show them that you are a fan and get involved. If you look at the good programs they had great fan bases and the success followed.

Yodayote, CoyoteFan is not a typical USD fan. Every fan base has a guy like him on their message boards, just a pure troll. Sure, he is very active in posting here, but I wouldn't consider him an active USD supporter or even a hardcore fan, though he thinks he is. Hardcore fans show up at games. That's not the CF M.O. He'll watch or listen from wherever, then show up here to post play by play game updates in a thread all by himself then make a statement like "there are no USD fans, nobody cares, I'm the only one here". Yeah tool, the rest of us are actually in attendance at the game.
My advice, don't read anything he says. He doesn't know what he is talking about and unless a coach is making the playoffs and winning tournament games he wants them fired...yesterday. He just said his attendance at basketball games will be "honestly not real often". Obviously CF is not happy about the job Craig Smith is doing thus far, though I can't imagine why. Yeah, it's been rough for football the last couple of seasons, but CF went from praising the Joe Glenn hiring to wanting him fired after year 1. He has no patience and has zero clue what it takes to build a successful program.
