Per Jay Elsen:
"One of the biggest questions surrounding USD has been answered. Head coach Joe Glenn says QB Kevin Earl (back) will not play in 2015."

I feel awful for Kevin Earl. He seemed to have all the momentum in his corner going into last season and it just vanished with a bad luck thumb injury and now his back.

That is one element of college football that, in situations such as Kevin's, I find especially difficult; These are young men who have a genuine love for the game. Hope he gets better soon!

I thought this was common knowledge as I had heard this back during spring football.
Probably just the official announcement.

At any rate, its time to move forward - we're just weeks away!

Not your mistake, the media are the ones saying it is breaking news.

Well, at least Saeger (and the coaching staff) can just focus on getting him ready for the starting role and won't have to answer questions about a QB controversy. On the other hand, I hope the other young guys can help push Ryan to keep getting better. If Ryan can speed up his reads and decision making, he is a great threat to have. His legs are a definite weapon.

It is too bad for Kevin and he will be missed. Good opportunity for Ryan and good that he has some starting experience under his belt. Go Yotes!!

Thats terrible for Kevin and the team. Hopefully his recovery goes well. Saeger played decent last year, I really like plays he made with his feet.

Too bad for Kevin, but I think Saegar is the right guy for the job regardless of Earl's status.
Not trying to feed the rumor mill here, but there might have been more to Kevin's situation than a lingering back injury. Been hearing some grumblings around town about Earl not doing things the "Joe Glenn" way. The last thing we need is a quarterback that hasn't bought in to what the program is trying to do.

Along the same line, I have heard that the bulk of the roster looks at Ryan as their leader.

This would help explain the ending to last season a little more to me. Either way if anything above is even somewhat accurate its great thats all put to rest now and not half way throug the season. Saeger was 2-2 (I know one game was William Penn) compared to 0-8.
On a side note a friend and I spoke with Earl in SF this past February and he seemed like a really smart, sharp kid. Hopefully everything works out great for him and I am glad he is sticking around to get his degree. It will not be something he will regret down the road.
