Jeff Sagarin is one of the best rating systems in my opinion. I have calculated the average of his ratings for all of the teams in the conferences they will be in rather than the ones that they are currently in. Based on those averages, The Summit League ranks as the 14th best conference for men and 17th for women compared to the Big Sky's 22nd for men and 21th for women. The dropping of Centenary and Southern Utah and addition of USD improves the Conference rankings significantly. The Great West is 33 rd in each. Sagarin's ratings change on a daily basis of course as games are played, but at this point the conference you are joining looks very good. Here are links to the ratings if you are not familiar with them. For men www.usatoday.com/sports/sagarin/bkc1011.htmThe Jacks are ranked 88th and the yotes 202nd. For women www.rpiratings.com/womrate.htmThe Jacks are ranked 55th and the yotes 225th

Truthfully, I was in favor of the Big Sky for several reasons, but I am happy to be part of this as well. With the addition of USD you say incresed the ratings of the Summit (and also the loss of the other two). I wonder what the Big Skys would have been had we joined, or if it wouldn't have changed at all??? Looking forward to the rivalry again. Hope you had a great Thanksgiving. For all you Yote fans, gorabbit is a good dude on the others schools board.

I just did the calculations to see what would have happened to the Big Sky average if USD would have joined them. The average for men would have gone up a little but not enough to pass the average for any other conference. On the women's side, USD's ranking is almost identical to the average for the Big Sky so there would be essentially no change.

If you've been monitoring Oakland of late, you've surely noted the string of competitive games they've put together against ranked opponents, including a one-point loss to Michigan State. Tonight, they knocked off #7 Tennessee. Keith Benson had a great game. Nice win for the Summit.
