Just got home from the game. The Yotes played very well tonight and although the individual points may not reflect it, they spread the ball around very well. Alot of hustle plays helped negate the large size advantage Wyoming had. Gruis and Tecker play fearless for true freshmen. Andreotti had some huge put backs and rebounds. Louie was just on fire. They all just played really well.
Nice to get that first win against one of the bigger D1 regional schools. I know Wyoming isn't the strongest of teams this year (I think we are even rated a few spots ahead of them in today's Sagarin rankings), but it still feels great!!!

USD had 20 assists in the game and Louie scored 29 points.
USD had the lead for all of the first half even though Wyoming did get close a couple of times. In the second half, Wyoming was able to take its first lead of the game, but Louie hit a three to put USD ahead again.
About midway through the second half, Wyoming tied it up, but Rico hit a jumper to put USD back ahead. Then a block/rebound that Kendall Cutler recovered turned into the perfect assist as he hit Westbrook on the fast break and he POWERED home a GREAT dunk.
Cutler then got another steal and hit Westbrook for an easy lay-up and USD controlled the game the rest of the way.
Cutler did just miss Westbrook for an alley-oop that just went off Westbrook's hands. If they would've connected on it, I think USD would've needed a new back-board ala Shaq with the Magic.
USD's defense really came together in the second half and forced Wyoming into some tough looks, tough shots and key turnovers. Boots said it's the best he has seen the defense play in quite some time.
Louie was on fire, and the team shot well from beyond the arc. Things are starting to come together quite well for this team. Rico is a pretty good rebounder. Tecker has great speed and isn't afraid to go down low at any point. Gruis is going to be an absolute beast for this USD team. He has a lot of good attributes. He won't be the shoot blocker Chain was, but I think he can match everything else.
Great win at home for USD tonight. Still wish it would've been a bigger crowd and they would've got more into it before Westbrook's dunk.

We played well tonight. Louie was on fire. Like you guys said, the team just looked like they flowed together better tonight on both sides of the ball. The defense looked alot better than it has lately. The second half tonight the defense was really tough. They caused alot of turnovers and were diving around for loose balls and just plain out hustled Wyoming. Everyone played really well tonight and it was nice to see the free throw shooting improve some from the previous games.
Rico did rebound tough and Gruis looked good once again on both ends. It was amazing how well we rebounded despite the size advantage.

BIG WIN, was a fun time. I still wish our student section would pull there head's out of you know where. The band was great - they cheer. Otherwise, about 5 guys in the student section made noise. The rest - bumps on the log. Although it's not like the old fuddy duddies were any better. We're up by six with two minutes left, and we can't get the old farts to stand up and cheer on defense. They finally did so with about 70 seconds left in the game. Hey, news flash old people. Get your butt up and cheer. Since we started out missing free throws down the stretch - the game was not sealed. Thankfully they started fouling Thomas.
Louie - is the man. Enough said.
We need the crowd to make the atmosphere better. That was arguably the biggest win in Coyote men's basketball D1 history (note I said D1 history) and those old farts are bumps on a log. Look I realize it's not SDSU and no one likes to cheer unless we are playing SDSU. But seriously, Wyoming is one of the better regional teams year in year old. That was a big win. Didn't they return all or most starters from last year. Talent wise, we had to out hustle them to win. And we did.
When we play Loyola the crowd better pick it up a notch.
The players delivered, it's time the FANS deliver and start acting like D1 fans.
PS - kudos to the band guy who tried to fire up the crowd. There's a difference between out of hand and having a little fun. Trying to start the waive is not out of hand. IMO

I was disappointed I couldn't make the game, but I had it DVRd and watched it later on last evening (even ignored my phone to prevent someone from spoiling it).
Tremendous effort. Hopefully the chemistry displayed last night is a sign of things to come. Given the influx of new talent, I think we're bound to still take some lumps in this young season. But it's amazing what a little extra confidence can do to accelerate that process.
By the way, we play Wisconsin next.

USDlaw, Coyote Fan isn't banned, he just chooses not to post. That's his deal.
In terms of the fans you brought up, you were a bit wrong on one thing. USD's student section also made noise for the Augie games haha.
Actually, the last time USD played Augie, the security was awful for that. They were upset with a lot of the cheers even if they didn't have profanities in them and they kicked a couple students out really for no reason. I think the security in that game would've kicked today's band out.
I think that is a small reason way the student section isn't as into it. The threat of getting kicked out for no reason for even doing the littlest thing. That stuff makes a difference honestly.
To give you an example of the difference it makes, down in Kearney the first night, a couple students got kicked out for stepping on the floor of the gym, not the floor they play on but the actual ground level. Blake Hojer got drug out. The next night it was a different person in charge and he was joking around and actually LISTENING to the students and working with them on what they could do and couldn't do, say and couldn't say. It was almost the same rules, just handled with RESPECT.
However, the fans DO need to get better. The Westbrook dunk helped, but the crowd still should've been better. Hopefully it's better for the Loyola game as well, and even Creighton for the women tonight.
In terms of the win USDLaw, you are correct that is the biggest D1 win at home for USD IMO as well.
Have a good one USD law.
