If this isn't your favorite football episode of Coyote Corner ever, you should probably check your pulse. Either way, enjoy. It was well earned.

The impact of the NDSU win remains to be seen. With Minnesota, EWU, and UNI we did absolutely nothing with those victories. If beating NDSU is the launching pad towards USD being a successful football team then I would agree entirely that it's the biggest win of the D1 era so far. If we fall back into the same old routing then I'd pick Minnesota. I'm an optimist though and I'm expecting the Yotes to keep rolling!

MInnesota was a terrible D1 team when we beat them, they had already lost to NDSU and taken to the wire by SDSU in previous seasons, still a huge win for any FCS dragon though (sort of like sdsu beating the Jayhawks this year, big win but not a complete shocker when you stop and think about it). EWU had a down year that season and was nowhere near the #1 team in country. UNI was a big comeback win and they are a top level team in the Valley, but they have not had the same level of success that NDSU has had the last 10 years. NDSU is the most significant win in the D1 era due to the fact that they are the program that everyone measures themselves against. 26 game home winning streak, 14 game conference losing streak, 47 years since the last USD win in Fargo, coyote nation losing hope....all came to a close with one resounding upset win.

Your reasoning is fair, but I still think NDSU is a bigger deal regardless of what comes next. With that said, it won't be nearly as special if they don't use it as a springboard.

Regardless of what happens the rest of this season, the NDSU game is still the biggest win in recent memory based on quality of opponent alone. This year's NDSU team is better than the other teams in the survey. Not to mention the winning tradition, home record, and 4 consecutive titles NDSU has.

I was in a sports bar in St. Louis when I saw the score of this game and I'm sure there's still some folks down who are wondering what the hell was wrong with that guy jumping around and carrying on. I am looking forward to the day when such news is commonplace and I can remain seated.

Jay,
Not good, but fantastic job of putting together high quality Coyote Corner shows. You are the best. Thanks for all you do in promoting the Yotes. Just plain outstanding.

You are absolutely right with that post but I am still waivering on your last sentence. I think how the Yotes react needs to be different than it was with the prior 3 big wins. Definately don't be satisfied. I would rank them as follows Minnesota tie NDSU tie UNI Eastern Washington - I think the importance of that game was over rated because EWU was simply highly rated and didn't turn out to be anything like the championship team they had the year before. I will always rank road wins ahead of home wins anyway. The biggest win in D1 history will be the first playoff win. Hopefully that will eventually be trumped with a national championship game win.

Just had a chance to watch the show. Good stuff. I still have a hard time believing that the Coyotes did really beat NDSU in Fargo. I have to say that again, the Coyotes beat the Bison in Fargo. I am liking the small basketball preview at the end of the show. Round ball is just around the corner, yeah.

I'm with nccyote above, although thankfully it has only been 37 years since our last win in Fargo, not 47. =)

You are right yotefan it was 37 years (2015-1978). Turns out besides having trouble beating the Coyotes some sports commentators north of South Dakota also had trouble with basic math. Unfortunately that also was carried over to ESPN's SC where they showed Mile's game winning kick and said 47 years. So anyone who wants real facts they have to look no further than posts on this board!! I disagree that Kansas and Minnesota teams were similarly weak. Decker the MN QB held several Gopher records and was picked up by the Broncos for a period of time. Being the first school from SD to beat an FBS school was a big deal and certainly the NDSU victory was huge also. No doubt as a team with 4 championships, 26 home wins, etc NDSU had a better team history. Both victories will be long remembered by Coyote faithful. A more interesting question might be in the history of FCS football is there a bigger upset than USD besting NDSU?? Would be hard to top.

I'd like to hear from the 1 person (as of now) that voted for Eastern Washington as the biggest win in the D1 era. Just curious as to why.

Eric Decker was a WR for the gophers, and graduated a year before that game....and he is still in the NFL.

Thanks yodayote for the correction! I am old and tried to do the MN QB name from memory. Actually he was Adam Weber. He finished 2010 with over 2600 yds passing with 20 TDs and 9 INTs. QB rating over 120. He set the MN record that year with 56 career TD passes and became only the 5th Big Ten QB to pass for over 10,000 yds in a career. Signed as undrafted free agent with Denver in 2011 reuniting with his favorite target--Eric Decker. Spent a year on Tampa Bay's practice squad and more recently was with the Roughriders of the CFL in 2014.
Minnesota won three games in 2010 including an away game at Illinois and a home game against Iowa. The Coyotes 41 points was tied for 2nd that year for the most points MN gave up in a game that year. Minnesota wasn't a great team in 2010 but wasn't terrible either. Certainly was a great win for the Yotes!! How many games will Kansas win this year?
