How awsome is it that this many people are spending their time researching records.... LOL. You're politely teasing the two or three nerds (me included) looking up the information. The football media guides are easy to access. Here's a link to the 2015 USD Football Media Supplement: issuu.com/sdcoyotes/docs/2015_fbmediasupplement

Not saying it couldn't have been a town team. You would think SDSU would have played this town team as well due to proximity. Who knows, track down someone who was there, lol.

..You would think SDSU would have played this town team as well due to proximity.... It's hard to argue with that point and the conclusion you're drawing seems more plausible than not. There are no references to SDSU playing a team from Brookings. But, I think it probably takes a little more checking (maybe during the summer!). When I was in high school, I had a part-time job at the Watertown newspaper writing sports stories during the basketball season. We'd sometimes dig back to the early days and see references to Watertown playing colleges (and winning a few) -- not uncommon during basketball season.

When I get a little more time I want to see if I can find articles for other years and see how SDSU is referred to. Brookings seems too far away to be going to play a town or high school team. I'd also like to be able to find other sources and see what's written.

Not much in terms of analysis going on in this thread. I'm pretty sure both sides know what they have to do to win the ball game. But I am really enjoying the records discussion. Here's a question for some of the more .... seasoned (is that the PC version of older than dirt?) posters. How exactly did they transport a football team in the late 1800s? Were there buses at the time? Might be a stupid question, but I'm curious anyway.

Were there buses at the time? Might be a stupid question, but I'm curious anyway. Quoted from Yotes earlier post " Everything went smooth until we struck Egan, then our trouble began in earnest. Eighteen men and eighteen grips packed into two three- seated carryalls, and a drive of thirty miles over frozen ground and the temperature much below the freezing point is not the most pleasant thing one could wish for. And then to be farmed out all over town shortly after arriving is not very conducive to good foot ball playing. However, we had to take what they offered in the way of entertainment, but we got what we went for, and somewhat upset their calculations in the final round-up."Sounds like plush accommodations, and we would get pissed when the damn DVD player wouldn't work on the charter bus...lol.

I have zero image in my head of what a "three-seated carryall" would look like. At least they had two of them to carry everyone haha

It was South Dakota in 1900, my guess is carryall is the term used for a wagon type automobile. Think of something like an old produce truck.

A "carryall" circa 1900 most likely was a horse-drawn wagon. We may need the USD History Department or similar authority (?) to weigh in on this but that's where my bet would go. Rode in one of those things while on Mackinac Island this summer. I did get a bit tired of seeing the back end of a horse (plus some other things) after three days.
As for the upcoming game, to borrow a phrase the players used themselves during Glenn's playing days:
Coyotes - agile, mobile, hostile! (pronounced with a long "i" as in aisle)
Beat the Bunnies from Brookings !!
