Yote fans don't forget that Women's basketball tips off their season on Friday November 13th at 6:30 PM against Utah. This is one of the most anticipated season's after the accomplishments of the last couple of years. The Utes were going to be a big challenge as is but without Seekamp for this one (and the next) the task becomes all that more difficult. The roster is stocked with talent. Can the Yotes hang with Utah? Or maybe we should ask can the Utes hang with South Dakota? Utah is in a very good Pac 12 but they only finished 3-15 in the league and 9-21 overall last season.
I think with Seekamp the Yotes might be the favorite but without her maybe the tide switches to the Utes. All in all a very hard game to gauge and I suppose it could go either way.
Is anyone planning to catch this one on the radio?

I'm expecting a USD victory even without Seekamp. I'll be very surprised if the yotes don't win. Utah is terrible. Plain and simple. (ended last year with a RPI of 238). The Utes are picked to finish 11th out 12 teams in the Pac 12. I'm anxious to see what Duffy and Fogg bring to your team. Here's a preview from Utah www.utahutes.com/sports/w-baskbl/spec-rel/110915aac.htmlGood Luck!

I had not looked into this one at all an did not realize Utah had such a poor season last year. A win in this one without Seekamp will be a great start to the season.

Looking into Utah a little more and I see they were 9-7 at home last year and 0-14 away from home. Utah went 6-1 at home in the non conference. Too bad this one isn't in Vermillion.

Free stream of the game here: pac-12.com/live/university-utahYotes up 4-2 early in the first quarter (that's right, quarter). It looks like Utah has about 100 fans in a 15,000 seat arena. Makes you realize how unique SD's support of women's basketball is.

Is this just a Utah thing or did Women's College basketball switch to 4 10:00 quarters. Gosh I am way out of the loop with that one.

It changed this year, four 10 min quarters. I also think after 5 fouls in a quarter it is 2 free throws, no more 1-1

57-50 Utah Dod Gammit. This is turning into a crappy day to be a Coyote. Apparently two winnable games for the hoops programs and apparently two losses on the way. 3:15 left

I didn't see until end of the 3rd quarter, but from what I saw...sloppy shooting and passing. This was a winnable game, but I am not too worried. A lot of girls got to play and will gel over the season. The talent is still there, they just didn't show up in the 2nd.

Utah wins it. This game is a pisser right now. The Coyotes D has been horrible down the stretch of this game. Utah is getting wide open looks when the Yotes should be locking down during the important part of the game. The staple of the women's program since Lavin took over was always to play suffocating defense. I don't know what is going on but Amy needs to get the message through to the team that they need to play a hell of a lot better on that end than they did in this game. Maybe not the entire game but when it counted most the defense was a sieve. I wasn't able to watch as much as I would have liked but it seemed like the intensity just wasn't there consistently tonight.
Both basketball teams had 2nd half meltdowns in different ways. The men towards the beginning of half and the women in the crucial final minutes. Not a good tone to set for a big Coyote weekend of sports.

Duffy had 20 tonight so she did her job in this one. Good debut for the transfer. No coach William's for comments tonight. Maybe she is too busy ass chewing after the game. Hate it when the coaches don't talk after a game. I want to hear comments win or lose.
Combined tonight Coyote basketball went 0-2 against teams with a combined record of 20-41 and 6-28 in conference. Of course there will be better days but that doesn't take the sting out of tonight. The men have kind of an excuse but the Women should have higher expectations. If the basketball program wants to have aspirations of striving for an at large bid to the NCAA tourney they can't have results like tonight, that is for sure.
