At first I wasn't too excited about this game when I saw it on the schedule. However, after reading today's previews in the local papers and browsing the Canisius basketball website...I am looking forward to tonight's game. This would be a nice win for USD. I am trying to attend whenever possible and root on the Yotes, as they are a team worthy of support (venerable coaching staff, they play hard, have a good mix of solid veterans and exciting newcomers). GO YOTES!

I was only able to listen to the last 5 minutes or so. Did we not play as well as predicted, or was this team better than we thought. I got the impression from reading the Argus yesterday that this was an expected victory with little challenges. Sounds like we were chasing them the whole game, just a few steps behind. They certainly converted down the stretch - a team loaded with seniors should do that.
Anyone there have thoughts?

I am still ticked at myself that I missed this game. Dealt with a headache the night before and I got no sleep, and I developed a pretty sore throat, so when I got home at five for supper, I literally passed out on my couch. Had my tickets and all for the game. Crap.
I did wake up in time to hear the second half and went back and read the P&D's live chat.
This is where depending too much on the three-pointer can hurt USD big time. Granted, it sounded like this was a pretty athletic team that could keep up with USD well, so I don't know how much USD drove to the hoop for points and could bang inside. Canisius had a 7'3 guy, so that didn't help with driving and working the game inside.
Just one of those things I guess when the three point shooting isn't there. USD hung with a team that could be middle of the pack in a decent conference as well. Would've been nice to see the W though.
It was nice to see Gruis hold his own offensively inside with 14 points, but USD got worked on the boards last night as well, but it was a tall athletic team.
Anyone have anymore thoughts that was at the game? Sorry I missed it.

Needed to crash the boards more. We're not hitting key shots. 7'3" guy did not contribute valuable minutes. We need to work on our free throws (along with a few other things). They are a difference maker in games like these. It seems like our percentage has not changed much in this area. Still, gotta love those Yotes!

The silver lining to this loss rests on a couple of fronts. One, our effort was strong despite really, really, really, really poor shooting. That's really how we remained in the game. Two, we're still seeing nice development from our young players. I heard reports coming into the season that Gruis had a long way to go in terms of development. I think he's proving himself to be an effective player right out of the gates, and should only improve as he gains more experience.
Cold shooting days will happen. This was one of those days.
