Hi guys. I'm new to the site. Not a fan but was searching around looking for information about this rumor that is being reported in steel town hamilton about our defensive coordinator Orlondo Steinauer. ticats.ca/coaches/orlondo-steinauerIts being reported that he was offered the head coaching job at South Dakota. And we are not surprised he is becoming a head coach but are surprised he is leaving to go to South Dakota. He was a candidate to be a head coach for a few CFL teams. Also a leading candidate to become head coach at a D1 program last year but turned it down to stay in Hamilton. He was also offered a few NFL positions and turned it down. And during the season he turned down a contract offer to stay in Hamilton. So why South Dakota? Are you familiar with him. It doesn't seem like he has any connections. What are you hearing as fans about this hire? You are getting probably the best defensive coordinator and up and comer in all of football. He was star defensive back as a player and has become a mastermind coach. We have a great head coach here in Kent Austin former stud SEC coach and CFL head coach. He returned and we are happy but some fans would want Steinauer to take over. So its just a shocker he is leaving to South Dakota. You have a nice stadium. I'm sure you have a deep tradition though you haven't been competitive so its going to be hard for him. Not sure if he can even recruit. If you need candidates for assistant. I would think Danny Barrett would be his OC. I am surprised you got our coach. Good luck to you all. You are in great hands. He is an awesome coach.

Wow. This would be a shocker to me, if true.

News to me as well. I'm not sure how I feel about an "out of left field" selection but I'm really interested to know if it's for real! Denny Creehan came from the CFL too right?

From the Toronto Sun 11/25/15: Defensive coordinator Orlondo Steinauer confirmed that he wants to be a head coach in the CFL one day. At times, his name has popped up in discussions when vacancies have materialized. “Some day I see myself in that role,” Steinauer told the Toronto Sun. “There is no focus on that. It’s an uncontrollable factor. Just like when I came into coaching (as a defensive backs coach with the Toronto Argonauts in 2010), people asked me the same thing: ‘Did you think you will be a coordinator?’ I did, but I could not tell you when it would happen. (A head coaching job) is nothing I am pursuing.” Steinauer is under contract through 2016 ... Austin bristled a bit when asked about his own contract status. “I don’t talk about my individual situation,” Austin said. “Why would you bring that up? I’m happy here and committed here. I work for a great organization and they afford us every opportunity to be successful and as a coach that is all you really want. I don’t have any plans to be going anywhere. Unless they kick me out.” That’s not going to happen. Austin has instilled a winning attitude (without actually having won the Grey Cup in his three years at the helm) in an organization that had forgotten what it was before he arrived in December 2012.

TSN radio in Hamilton mentioned it. Lots of fans chatting with The Scratching Post on television about 2 hrs ago. The rumor is that Steinauer was talking to a D1-aa school which is USD and another CFL team. During the Grey Cup week last week he was talking to other CFL teams and 2 NCAA teams and his own team (trying to resign him)
Monday there was a rumor that the other CFL team is trying to steal away the Grey Cup championship team. Which leads to Hamilton and this other team (which today was reporting it was South Dakota)

This one would really be out there. If this is true I am happy that USD was willing to cast their net this wide. He would certainly be an interesting hire to say the least.

Just doesn't fit with Herbsters description of what they are looking for. Calling BS

At this point I guess we have to trust the powers that be and get behind who ever is hired

I just don't believe this one. Zero D1 experience, zero head coaching experience, and has spent the last 20 years playing a different kind of football. Not happening.

Is he bringing the Wing T offense with him?
Yeah, Denny Creehan came fromt eh CFL Edmonton Eskimos, IIRC.
I realize the CFL is pro football but I also don't see how this hire would fit the criteria we are looking for.
