Cant make this stuff up. Just one more joke degree SDSU offers. No wonder why most of their grads end up with crap jobs making no money and living in Brookings.

Reading the article it sounds similar to a minor USD added within the past few years: catalog.usd.edu/preview_program.php?catoid=19&poid=2969Social media is a channel not to be ignored. Lots of organizations hiring people to manage their social media pages. Having a minor like this listed on your resume could mean the difference between being hired and continuing the job search, depending on the positions you are looking at.

Don't know about minoring in it but our youth hockey association uses Twitter, Facebook, and our website extensively when announcing and marketing events, recruiting, and registration. You may not think much of it but it works and it is practically free. Twitter especially. The Twitter tenticles can reach out extensively if the right contacts pick it up and retweet it. There is a term called "going viral" and it is real.

USD's and other schools are geared towards the marketing side of social media or some other aspect. That I understand. I would agree that is very important. To simply minor in social media means nothing to me. To me its similar to SDSU comparing their agri business and entrepreneur degrees to USD's business school degrees.
