Recommend walking around USD campus and Dakotadome. Also tomorrow the Winery located on the outskirts of the west end of town toward Yankton and then the short 2 mile drive to the Missouri River.

Wife and I will have short visit, we are from Texas; dropping off our son who will will be attending USD. Hoping to learn a little about the town and enjoy the day. Any suggestions? I'm assuming you're from a larger metropolitan city, so not sure what first impressions will be. Town is over 10,000 extremely friendly people. When you come in on highway 50 take the bypass around north side and go a mile or so and you will see the DakotaDome where they play football. On the south side you will see the new basketball arena that's never hosted a game yet. Everything south is the campus, and further south is downtown Vermillion. The east/west street through downtown is Main Street. If you take Main Street east for roughly 2 miles you will come to The Bluffs golf course. 18 hole layout that is a blast to play. The head pro is Kirk Hogan. Go in and introduce yourself. The absolute best part of vermillion are the people. Due to summer break, there won't be a lot of activities. If you would like to talk with me about this, send me your number in a private message and I will reply or call you. Welcome your son to USD, and welcome to the parents as well. Don't strike out on first impression, as it is a lot like most Midwestern small towns....small but great people. I assure you when he leaves in 4-5 years he will be happy.

Wow appreciate the responses sdyotefan & yoteforever. Yes, we are from the Dallas area, we have been to Vermillion (brief stay, lots of snow), however the focus was to learn about the football program and staff. This go around we were hoping to enjoy the town.
BTW, awesome first impression, everyone we met was super nice.

Welcome to USD and congrats on becoming parents of a Coyote. Education is first class (I can attest - 3 degrees from USD). I love being a Yote alum and my family and I are faithful football, and soon to be basketball, season ticket holders. Go Yotes!

Our time in Vermillion, Sioux Falls, and Sioux City… Vermillion: We spent most of our time going back and forth to Walmart, but we did get a chance to roam a bit . Needless to say, the campus is super nice, and the folks were delightful! The dorms were impressive and the town is charming. Sioux Falls: We had the opportunity to explore the city and see the falls; awesome sight and sound! We found a nice Irish Pub (McNalley’s) which allowed us to kick our feet up for a bit. Sioux City: We had an adventure at the hotel we stayed at. The fire Alarm was pulled at 2:00AM and then it started going off again at 6:00AM, not pleasant, other than that not too much to say since we didn’t spend too much time there… We will return soon !
