Charleston Southern @ NDSU (8/27) - expecting an overall regression to the mean by Bison this year South Dakota @ New Mexico (9/1) - we keep it close, but likely shuffle a lot of players through to see how they perform and fall late Southwestern College @ MSU (9/1) - Missouri State will be undefeated! Western Ill @ Eastern Ill (9/1) - new coach on the road... Duquesne @ YSU (9/1) Butler @ Ind St. (9/3) SIU @ Florida Atlantic (9/3) - SIU could win this one. UNI @ ISU (9/3) - UNI can't sneak up on ISU anymore SDSU @ TCU (9/3) - I can see the rabbits scoring early, and then the floodgates open Read more: usdcoyotesports.proboards.com/thread/1773/mvfc-week-1-predictions#ixzz4IXbpbLYp

WIU, SIU, and UNI are the interesting games for me. MVFC is underdog in these three but I see at least one win from the conference out of these three.
NDSU, YSU, MSU, InSU all win handily.
SDSU will lose by 4+ scores.
USD is hard for me to predict with so many new faces on defense and a new system on offense. I'm guessing we lose by 17.
Is Illinois State really off this first week?

gopher yote, so far in this NDSU game, I'm thinking we might need to hit Vegas with your picks. Dang, you might be right about the Bison. Buuuttt, remember they list to Montana to open last season. This one is at home though.

This one is at home though. That Montana game was weird. There were huge forest fires that caused smoke to sit over Montana for weeks giving the Griz a very unique advantage having gone through Fall camp dealing with it then getting to play an NDSU team that had no way to prepare for it. NDSU left no doubt in their rematch during the playoffs with a 37-6 victory. Back to the present, Charleston Southern might not be getting the credit they deserve (despite being ranked #6). Through three quarters they have gone toe-to-toe with NDSU in their building and have really impressed me. Either NDSU is coming back to Earth or Charleston Southern is a legit contender to unseat NDSU during the playoffs.

NDSU won in overtime (the broadcast said this was the first OT game in Fargo ever for NDSU). Charleston Southern likely will have a good season - they went 10-3 last year with their only loss to an FCS team being in the FCS quarterfinals to Jacksonville State - but I was not impressed with how NDSU handled a team with such a limited passing game. Charleston Southern only completed 8 of 20 passes for 94 yards, but still found themselves tied at the end of regulation...and could have won had they mad their FG at the end of regulation - or if NDSU hadn't made one off the bottom cross bar to end the first half. If this is what NDSU has in store for 2016 I'm not sure they win the MVFC this year.

Agree with that, I was not impressed, however, NDSU has shown they get better as the season goes along.

Either NDSU is coming back to Earth or Charleston Southern is a legit contender to unseat NDSU during the playoffs. I watched the entire game. NDSU D-line will be legit this year and DeLuca is all over the place. His backup Matt Plank also did a great job in DeLuca's absence (he dislocated his shoulder). The thing about NDSU and all championship caliber teams is depth. You can have a good/great team, but if you have any injuries (which is bound to happen) how good is the "next man up?" NDSU had about 3 or 4 big plays (few of them were TD's) called back from penalties. From what I saw, NDSU didn't look sharp and missed on RB dump passes that could have easily went for 1st downs that were dropped. NDSU will be just fine. They looked like a young team in their first game of the season. By the time we see them in the dome they will be hitting on all cylinders and be the team we have known them to be, the cream of the FCS crop. CSU had a chance at the end of regulation to win the game with a 50 or so yard FG. The kicker put a good boot on it with plenty of leg. It sailed just left and the game went into OT. I knew the Bison would win at that point and that is exactly what happened. King Frazier scored on the first play of OT and CSU turned over on downs.

I also watched the NDSU game and agree they will be tough as always. Will be very tough for them to duplicate Wentz's play at QB though--obviously you don't have a number 2 NFL pick come along very often. CS gave up 2 long passes one for a TD where the receivers just ran by the DBs which will happen when you have a very strong running game. They also had a number of injuries during the game. They certainly had chances to win the game. The Coyotes were mentioned as the last team to beat the bison in the Fargo dome.

Pretty cool #1 vs #6 agreed to play the opener...great game!! NDSU will indeed get better. Easton Stick was very good. Have to believe he will be one of top QBs in FCS by midseason. Front 7 top notch, DBs were ok... I was impressed by the LB play on both sides. One thing that did stick out was the depth NDSU has; when the MIKE went down he was replaced with another kid that was almost as good as the 1... If they meet again in the playoffs I think NDSU wins by at least 2 TDs...
