It's almost as powerful sheep riding or cattle grazing or crop growing or whatever other stereotype every single supporter of sdsu is.

Boards have been quiet lately... thought this needed to be discussed... New dorms going up in Brookings. Haven't they ever read the story of the Big Bad Coyote? Sorry the pic is sideways... blame KSFY for the tweet.

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but isn't the State Fair subsidized by the state gov't? If that is the case, isn't this taking money away from the gate fees that help the State Fair make money...? Guessing the majority of the bunny ticket holders would've attended the State Fair anyway and paid the gate fee regardless... Seems like this is taking money out of the State Fair coffers... www.gojacks.com/news/2017/5/22/football-sdsu-state-fair-team-up-on-ticket-promotion.aspx

The State Fair needs help. Like moving it out of Huron.

The State Fair needs help. Like moving it out of Huron. I've never been, but the people I've known who have been have had nothing positive to say about the state fair. Sioux Falls seems to do well with the Sioux Empire Fair, why not just put the state fair there and make something bigger than either is on their own?

I went to the fair one time and will never go back again either. Huron is one problem but the fair itself is not worth driving 10 miles for let alone 100 miles or more. It's made for those that farm or want to sell things. They should hang a sign there that says "Children No Fun Zone, Kids Enter at Own Risk" because that is exactly what it is, no fun. The Sioux Empire fair is much better and caters to all age groups and backgrounds not just farmers.

Sad, but why go to the South Dakota State Fair when the Minnesota and Iowa State Fairs are within a days drive? Those two fairs are big time fairs with big time attractions.
If the SD State fair wants to be on that level the only option is to move it to Sioux Falls.

Just like the only option for the USD Law School and probably many other programs there to be successful is to move to Sioux Falls??? Sorry, couldn't resist.

I'm sure your comment was in jest, but a better comparison would be uprooting an entire university and moving it.

Brookings could host the State Fair. Already has the smell from the sheep barn, so they got that going for them.

Smack Talk is marginal at best compared to the other Categories......but I have to interject here.... Huron is a great town full of Coyotes, and with the help of thousands of annual volunteer hours the SD State Fair has been on the rise for at least the last 4-5 years. Be careful about the negative talk; you are dating yourself and exhibiting that "ignorance is bliss" phrase usually reserved for jackrabbit fans. The State Fair has 180 acres of well maintained property. The cost of building a comparable agricultural venue in Sioux Falls would be astronomical. The budget is in the black, the number of kids who love coming every year is actually growing, and activities on-site cover probably 35 to 40 weekends every year. The new 4.7 million dollar Expo Building is impressive (all paid for by private donations). We are all good Coyotes, dissing Huron or the State Fair gets away from jacks smack talk.

Good to hear an opinion from someone who is more familiar. I have three very close friends from Huron who went to USD and remain in Vermillion, but none of them can tell me anything about the fair.
