Because USD won at Indiana State they have a legitimate path to the playoffs that isn't just a pipe dream but realistic.
Here are the current standing in the MVFC after the afternoon games today.
SDSU 3-0 YSU 2-0 NDSU 2-1 WIU 2-1 USD 2-1 UNI 1-1 MSU 1-2 ISU-B 1-3 SIU 0-2 ISU-R 0-3
The Coyotes would be well served and may need to win the games remaining vs ISU Red, Western Illinois and at S. Illinois. If they do that a playoff spot is all but guaranteed if they beat either SDSU or NDSU. The Illinois State game is a must win next week. The Western Illinois game the week after is a game where the winner is in the drivers seat over the other for a playoff spot. The most likely senario is 4 Valley teams in the playoffs but 2 is also a possibility. 5 is very unlikely again this year. I think what it may end up coming down to is the last game against NDSU being a game where a win would put the Yotes in but a loss might leave them at home. Either way this talk is all not ever possible if the Coyotes don't hold off UNI and Indiana State.

Agree that winning against the three upcoming Illinois schools plus against one of the xDSUs would land us in the playoffs, but that is just so incredibly optimistic. That's finishing the regular season winning 6 MVFC games in a 7 game stretch. We won 6 MVFC games total our first four years in the conference. It would have been nice to pull out that win against UND and have a more realistic road to the playoffs.
I'm hoping for a 4-4 conference record and anything beyond that will be just peachy. I do like our chances in our next three games. I'll be happy if we win 2 of the 3. This team has not been consistent enough to be counting on winning all three - though it sure would be cool to see the team get their win streak to 5 heading into the DSU games.

I also just want to go 4-4 in conference this year, that is the goal, anything more is gravy. I think dropping that game at UND, a game we had in the bag, will come back to haunt us come playoff selection time.

It is exactly what we did last year in losing games to Idaho St and Weber St. Both which we were winning. Injuries played a factor, but thats no excuse; good teams have depth. USD has a tough schedule, but is playing good ball.

Let's just focus on winning the game in front of us! In this league, that is the playoffs, next Saturday's game. I know there are more "elite" teams than the Yotes in the MVFC, but there isn't a team that we can't beat. Take 'em one game at a time fellas!!

As a longtime Colt fan Jim Mora's comment came to my mind too when this tread was created. I agree 100% with canislatrans's post above!!! Yotes need to focus on only the next game up and continuing to work on getting better. I'm sure that's what the coaches are preaching too!
