Congrats to Brendan for being named MVFC defensive player of the week. He had 4 sacks tying the all time USD record!!
Actually the whole Yote D could have been named for goal line stand!!

Congratulations to Coach Nielson being named one of the top 20 FCS coaches for the year!! He has brought in several very talented new coaches and players and the Coyote turnaround from last year is due in large part to his hard work and dedication!
Great job coach!!

Congrats to Brock on being selected to the top 30 of the Buck Buchanan defensive player of the year!! He has 389 tkls in his USD career so far which is 4th all time and is 3rd in active FCS players!
I'm old enough to remember Buck playing for the KC Chiefs starting in 1963 as the number one draft pick of the AFL. He was massive for those days at 6'7" and 270 lbs playing DT. Played in 182 games (166 straight)! He ran the 40 in 4.9. It's very fitting the award is named for him!
With all these FCS awards it's good to remember the competition is among 128 teams and over 12,000 players!

I vividly remember Buck Buchanon as well. 1st pick of AFL KC Chiefs out of Grambling, which back then was an NAIA school. Played in college for Eddie Robinson.
He was a great human being. Died very young if I recall correctly. Too bad

Congrats to Isaac Erbes being named offensive lineman of the week after the Coyotes' victory over Western Ill! That was his second such award this season!
The whole offensive line is playing with a disruptive attitude and that certainly showed at Western with the Yotes racking up 559 combined yards!!
O and D lines keep wreaking HAVOC!!
Go Yotes!!!

Congratulations to coach Nielson on being selected to the final five for the Eddie Robinson FCS Coach of the Year award!!! Very much deserved since he lead the Coyotes to the largest increase of wins from last year--3 to 9!!! I had read Coach Nielson was one of 20 finalists for the Eddie Robinson FCS award but haven't been able to find any news stating that field of 20 was now reduced to five. Have a link? In any event, I thought Coach Nielson's nomination as one of the top 20 is well deserved. I met Coach Nielson years ago and followed his success at UM-Duluth followed by his bringing some life back to Western Illinois. I always thought he was a classy guy. If the field was reduced to five, who are the other four finalists?

It was posted on an FCS site 18 hours ago and did list the other four, but I didn't pay attention to the names. Don't see any update now and don't remember the exact site. Perhaps it was someone speculating?
Anyway Nielson does deserve the award and the fact he was named coach of the year in the FCS's toughest conference (MVFC) is another indicator!

You’re right: that was Sam Herder’s pick of five finalists with his top choice, Coach Nielson. Herder has a vote and he is a very reliable reporter on FCS football but this particular article was his opinion (his opinions are pretty accurate).

If 3 wins to a 3 seed doesn't get Nielsen the national honor then what even is the point of these awards?

I think Bobs deserving but you could’ve built a case for SDSU’s coach as well. I realize he was handed a good team but he got the job done. But I’m grateful Bob won the award.

The best thing Bob did was get out of the way…. We weren’t that bad last year…had a tough schedule, young players , lost the OC, new QB and Bob took over the play calling and really had no clue. Couldn’t get a play in on time. Tough to watch. Aside from the last game of the year I thought we played teams tough. Bob does get credit for keeping things together and finding the right coaches. If that deserves COY so be it!

The reason I posted a couple of days ago, questioning that a final five had been selected and that Coach Nielson was the award recipient was because I had not read that anywhere and I knew that the Eddie Robinson Award is given at a banquet the night before the FCS national championship game. Stig won it last year. So, this year's award recipient has not been named yet...Sam Herder, one of the voters, had disclosed his top five and his overall pick would be Coach Nielson but there are a lot of voters for that award. I think a strong case can be made for Coach Nielson getting that award this year but the award won't be known until the night before the title game in Frisco.

Thanks for clarification. I’m pretty certain Bobs occupied with other things anyway.
