This will be a tough game, especially in Brookings. At least it won't be balls freezing cold and their students won't throw ice at our players and coach. That was the most classless thing I have ever seen at a sporting event. Obviously the key is stopping Wienke (sp) and Goedert. Our run D has been the weak spot this year, but luckily the State rushing O is their weak spot as well. I feel like USD has a much better shot winning up there than in at least the last 3 trips. State's D seems to be playing better so we will need to score early and hit some big plays. I believe this year in the MVFC any team could knock anyone off. I think USD can win, but if I'm a betting man I think State takes this one since it is up there. It may go down to the end like last year, it will depend if we can prevent big plays by the Jacks.

As per a poster on the wabbit boards," If we don't sell out that's on USD fans... How do they not have more people coming up for the game? Have they lost alk [sic] hope in terms of beating SDSU?" They are also making predictions that we only score 3 pts and that is because Bergner is so good (which they do acknowledge he is the best kicker in the conference). Well, I guess they can blame me if it isn't a sell-out. I'm coaching youth sports on Saturday, and going to the hoops double-header on Sunday. Real life means a FB in Brookings isn't going to make the cut on a holiday weekend. I guess I'm OK with them blaming me.

Apparently the qualifications to be a Jacks fan must be a little too difficult to fill the stadium with their own fans. They might have to take out the part about their fans' bathroom dealings not stinking out of the fan bylaws.

Oh gimme a break. 3 points, really. I would gladly take a wager on that. I would say based on SDSU's inconsistent defense and Streveler's ability to dominate a game for stretches it is probably a good bet that the Coyotes score at least 1 or 2 touchdowns at worst unless there is some very strange weather or a 30MPH plus wind. The Yotes are good for at least a couple of big plays a game. Usually one Streveler run and another long pass. It looks like the temps are going to be fairly warm and if the wind stays at 10MPH or less this could really be a shoot out. Well I just checked and the high is in the low 50's with a 21 MPH wind which is just strong enough to cause some issues. I know at the old Coughlin winds always seemed to be a factor. With the new design I am guessing maybe that curbs the wind a bit and with the configuration it probably tends to swirl more than it used to. Since the Coyotes really seem to lack the intermediate passing game I could see that as a big problem in this one. If the Coyotes go deep it's probably going to be problematic for their execution level. On the other hand the Jacks could really dominate the intermediate passing game with their big receiver(s). If the passes are just a little off line I think the Jacks receivers will be able to adjust better to the ball with their height and strength. I have already read that Christian has been helped greatly by the receivers with some accuracy issue. With the conditions I will stick with my 38-17 pick for this one.

I believe this is the first time in the history of the series that USD will be playing on turf in Brookings. It seems the Yotes have always played better and faster on an artificial surfaces as they are more accustomed to doing so at home. I had a chance a few years ago to spend some time on the field at Coughing Alumni before the USD game and was shocked at how uneven and patchy it was. There were many areas that were simply sections of painted dirt. In fact, they were so bad I took a few text pictures and sent them to my dad and a few State buddies with a few choice comments. I also had to include a picture of the grandstand supports on the edge of cinder blocks that were about to collapse with a few comments about engineering. =) Anyway, the field should be even for this Saturday (pun intended), but the Jacks have a lot of weapons. It will take a special and complete effort from the Yotes to pull this one off. We too have a lot of weapons, but as young teams often do, we've made some costly mistakes by shooting ourselves in the foot all season, even in games we have won. With a complete effort this team can beat State all day long, including that team from Fargo. Go Yotes!

Hope the wind is howling at 40 mph, negates the passing game. I'll put our run game up against theirs any day.

Now, I will say that I think we run the zone read as well as anyone in the conference. We seem to struggle when we try to run the ball in a traditional sense though (Pistol, Single back, I-Form, etc). I don't see it being windy enough to negate the passing game, so we better have a damn good defensive game plan together. Could get torched if we can't find a way to get pressure without bringing 5-6 guys.

On paper we should beat the mustard and blue.
Of course, we'll be playing on artificial turf so it might be a little tougher. Go Yotes!

Well, playing on actual paper (read my post again) would be pretty silly. That was my point. Sorry it confused you, and probably many others!
No one really ever plays on the stuff but might be interesting to see - just once.
Okay, I'll stop. Evidently I'm a bit too clever for my own good.
