So a couple big games this weekend for USD at home. Unfortunately with the Hanson Classic going on, I won't be able go.
Both teams are 0-1, so dropping to 0-2 early in GWC play isn't exactly an option if either team expects to win the conference. UVU is 1-0 for the men, so USD would really dig itself an early hole with a loss here.
Injuries have affected Jake Thomas this season and it sounds like Steve Tecker is dealing with hip issues again. Yikes. It's important for the two big to avoid foul trouble in this game, because that seems like a major reason why USD lost to UND. Plus, Louie needs to keep up his good play recently.
For the women, UND is a tough game at the Betty always. UVU isn't really that good, so I am expecting USD to get a win here. Anything less would be a huge disappointment. Hegge has been a beast here and I think USD can take over inside with Boss and Robertson. Roche's outside shooting will also help.
Who is all going?

Sioux and Utah Valley men going into fourth overtime, tied 91-91. Maybe they'll be tired Saturday? UND women win big over UVU.

Agreed, I am putting this under the must win category for USD. If they don't win this game, I give them a 10 percent chance of winning the GWC, and that would even be high. Granted, when the year began, I though they would have some problems because of youth inside. Definitely not calling for a coaching change though lol.

This was a must win and became a win, thank goodness. If the Yotes wanted a legit chance to repeat as GWC champs they needed to pull this one out. The Yotes played well but I feel as if they are still inconsistant and wouldn't have gotten away with a win if this game was played in Orem.
I feel as if Boots has the right attitude right now but he is making the fundamental error of playing too half court oriented with a guard dominated offense. For the first time since maybe the hay days of the early to mid 90's the Yotes have a team that should excell by playing a running style offense. Cutler, Westbrook, Krogman and Andreotti at the very least would all thrive in an uptempo game. I can see slowing it down against major college basketball teams but against the Great West USD should be running and playing alot of pressure defense. It's like Boots is familiar with relying on a good big man down low and now that there isn't a true post he isn't adjusting to the type of team he has.
I see Utah Valley as the eventual winner of the conference with a 10-2 record. USD will probably end up 2nd or 3rd.
How about UND though, they play USD at home get all warm about it by winning but basically give everything back by losing to the Wolverines only to see them lose at USD. UND needs to win at USD or the Yotes are a game up on them.

Yotes have a slim 41-39 lead at the half. Thomas is hot with 19 point. He has hit from Burbank, Meckling and Elk Point so far.

What a second half. USD wins it 90-73. There are so many guys playing well. Gruis is becoming a very good player, a definate force inside. Andreotti is killing it on the glass. Thomas and Westbrook had a 2 man duel that ends in a 25-25 tie. Westbrook is definately the best athlete that Boots has ever had. If Thomas keeps shooting well from outside the Yotes will be difficult to deal with offensively.

Pretty sure the Yotes beat Houston Baptist tonight and not UVU.
I'll let you slide on this on CF because you've been away for a while but not your horrid predictions for the USD football season. 3-8??? Are you mental?

Right here.
Coyote Fan: "Could be a bit of a rough year if the predictions go this way. 4-7 in my pick but I see it realistically as somewhere between 3-8 & 6-5. Probably won't be better and probably won't be worse than this range."
