Western Illinois has been an enigma this year! Prognosticators have written them off, but they have still won enough to be in the running. Their offense, steals, blocks, turnovers and a barrage of treys make them a dangerous opponent. Should be a fun one to watch!
I say they give us a scare, but our solid free-throw shooting wins the day again. 70-68

Their defense (WIU) has been good, too. Coach P said it is a particular type of zone that can throw teams off. I'm hoping she has a good game plan.

I am looking forward to this one. The Coyotes are such a good scoring team in multiple ways. If it's not Arens using her creative driving to the basket, it the post up game that Fogg can bring but more often then not it always comes down to how well the Coyotes shoot it from the arc and they shoot it damn well.
I look for a 79-67 win.

WIU is on fire and are getting a hand on a lot of lazy passes. WIU leads 27-15 with 9 min left in the 2nd qrt.

Worst half of basketball I have seen from a South Dakota women's team in a long time. Turnovers galore, lack of transition defense, and overall inability to get a hand in the face of Western Illinois. The Leathernecks have been given several inches and they are taking it the extra mile with hot shooting. Hopefully the second half is a different story...

46-28 WIU with 2:36 left. WIU is straight outplaying the Yotes right now. USD with a lot of dumb/lazy passes getting picked off. WIU likes to push the ball and shoot quickly. They also have a good perimeter defense.

How many times can we shoot ourselves in the foot and still hang in this one?

Hard to swallow a loss when the officials made such putrid calls at pivotal moments.

Can't blame the refs when your starting guards have 14 turnovers to six assists. You don't win basketball games at any level that way. But that last call on McKeever was atrocious.

Western Ill is a good team but defensively we should have been smarter. They're O is to drive the basket and shoot it if open or kick it out for a 3. So you have to stay with each player and not let them drive especially their small guard. Even in the last Q never quite figured that out. The other two big items as others mentioned were our turnovers and not getting back on D quick enough. On O we were generally dribbling too much not passing the ball quicker for better open looks. Great job by the Lady Yotes though hanging in there and still having an opportunity to win at the end!!

Clearly the worst I've seen our women play this year. Officiating was horrible as well. That 1st foul on Ciara Duffy was not a good call. Then she did get a legit foul... ended up sitting majority of 1st half after that. Hope they bounce back from this one, learn from it, and trounce the rest of the SL from here on out.

That ending in Omaha should ease a little pain today.

I didn't think the Coyotes played poorly today, or at least poorly in the energy department. They made some mistakes but the Coyotes didn't lose this game as much as Western Illinois won it. They played the best game I have seen from an opposing team in the SCSC. I tip my hat to the Lady Leathernecks as they just flat out played very well. The Coyotes had their chances to come back but WIU just kept playing with poise and making big shots when they needed them. The Coyotes just could not figure out Western's defense today. I think Dawn will have a good game plan next time around and I don't think Western could possibly play as well as they did today but since the game will be in their gym they may not have to either.
What really hurts about this one is that the Coyotes with a win could have lost against the Jacks in Frost and still been able to win a tie for the league title and get the 1 seed based on tie breaker. Now it's either going to take a win in Frost or the Jacks to stumble at least one more time against a team higher up in the standings. It's going to be a tough road ahead with games in Brookings, Indianapolis and MaComb that will all be tough to get wins in. Just like the men the women have 5 of their last 7 on the road.
I am not disappointed in the performance today as much as I wish WIU wouldn't have played so well in our building.
