Now that we will be in the same conference with UND again, I thought it would be fun to come up some ideas for a new trophy to replace the Sitting Bull Trophy that we used to play for 1953-2000. (47 years!). It was created by Al Neuharth in 1953 after there was some controversy over where Sitting Bull's remains were buried. It was retired in 2000 in the wake of nationwide controversies over Native American names in sports mascots and symbols. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sitting_Bull_TrophySerious ideas are discouraged, but will be allowed.............

A piece of pipe from the Dakota Access Pipeline maybe?
There was a huge fight back in the day over the location of the capitol prior to statehood, Pierre or Bismarck. It was solved by splitting the territory in two prior to statehood. How about the Capitol Cup? Maybe a Dakota Territory Trophy, we could make it a big, gold rock that resembles a golden nugget (nod to the Black Hills) mounted on a base of oak. Obviously would be too expensive to be solid gold so make it a rock painted gold with flakes of Black Hills Gold infused in the paint.
There was also controversy over which state was admitted first to the Union. Maybe we play for the First Dakota Trophy. I have an idea for corporate sponsorship. Or maybe for something that is related to being the 39th State.
We could also play for some lutefisk.

Is the Bulling Sit trophy an option? That would make for some awesome auto-correct's.

Love the opening line of the SI article..."Grand Forks, N. Dak. is the kind of place where you feel comfortable in raveled grammar and a sloppy sweater.". Sums up my sentiments of ND exactly!

I don't know how many of you have heard of, or know, Dwight Duncombe, but he is one of the best guys I know. A genuine man that lit up D-2 football in this era. When he scored "DUKE" would do back flips. One Saturday morning college football did a tv story on the DUKE. He now lives in Minneapolis, but comes to one or two games a year in the fall. His younger brother Vincent ( or Vinnie ) also played for the Coyotes.

I remember watching him. He was fast, had very good hands and was very athletic. After a TD he'd do his famous backflip which was featured on national TV!! He was all-NCC twice and all-American in 1974. Holds Coyote single game record with 205 yds and still 5th in career receiving yards with 2010 in 3 years. Great player!!
