Would love to see renderings of the different phases.

Not to throw water on the excitement about dome renovation/expansion but the reality is that there is a whole lot of money that needs to be raised before anything happens. As mentioned previously, the first phase will cost about $30 million and construction doesn't start until that number is committed via cash or pledges. The number mentioned to complete all of the work (including outdoor turf practice fields) is over $60 million. Putting this up against the cost of the new arena ($66M), and how long that took to come to reality, we will need some major donor activity to set something in motion.
Not saying it won't happen because I believe in the people who will make it happen, but it will take a lot of work and unfortunately a fair amount of time.

Agreed there is a long road ahead. They are publicly discussing the project though, so who knows how long they have been privately discussing and fundraising.

Unfortunately when the public hears nothing other than a newspaper story over the past year on renovations it will probably take even longer. It's almost like we are not even trying to get it completed or raise money/awareness. Renderings or something would be a big help instead of this secret campaign again. It's the unicorn or leprechaun campaign.
How many people are going to throw money in the offering plate if you do not pass it around but simply leave it in the back of the church hoping someone will throw money in it?

Need to ramp this project up as hard as they did for the other facility improvements. For many of us this is the most important project to date.

The football improvements are kind of a luxury at least for now but the basketball and volley programs needed their facility about a hundred times worse then the dome renovation and they should have priority and did. At least the football team is playing in a football facility. Football will have it's improvements in time. I think the biggest need for football may be to get to a 15K capacity so if they want/need to move to a different level of D1 football then they will be prepared. The football program needed a winning football staff worse then they need a better stadium.

They are hard at work on it. They start by securing a lead gift or several major gifts, using their resources. Unless you can give 7 figures, they aren't talking to you now and don't need to be. Rest assured, our foundation knows what they are doing and do it better than any of our peer institutions. These things are not built on a bunch of $1000 gifts at this stage. The hat passing comes last.

The football program needed a winning football staff worse then they need a better pstadium. Its hard to separate the two goals. They go hand-in-hand. Part of the reason we were able to steal the coach we wanted from a conference rival was our demonstrated commitment to improving our sports facilities. And a promise of Dome renovations too. Coach Nielsen literally said that in his introduction speech.

No good place to put this without starting a new thread... and didn't think it warranted a new thread.
Interesting graphic...

Updated with average home attendance to this point in the season. YSU, UND, and Illinois State jumping up, many with a small upward trend, and UNI, Indy State, and Western Illinois slipping. Again I think the need for capacity expansion is urgent for the DakotaDome. Only USD, UND and NDSU have an average capacity in the 90+ percent range.

Interesting how attendance numbers roughly correspond to win/loss records for each team over the years.
To borrow a phrase: maybe if we build it, they will come. I'm referring here to the Dome seating capacity.

Fake numbers. The Dome only holds 5,000 max. I know a guy who counted all the seats.

Fake numbers. The Dome only holds 5,000 max. I know a guy who counted all the seats. Well you are correct those are fake numbers (almost). Those numbers are actually 2016 attendance figures. The NCAA released the top 30 FCS attendance for 2017 and listed NDSU 18,333 YSU 14,203 SDSU 11,883 Ill St. 11,440 UNI 9,696 Later in the release they posted attendance for all of the schools and they listed the 2016 attendance numbers not the 2017. So yes those are fake numbers so to speak. Only the top 30 FCS schools listed have the correct attendance for 2017 and since USD was not in the top 30 schools, we have no idea what your attendance numbers actually are. Here are links to the 2017 and 2016 NCAA attendance figures 2017 Attendance
