He was a good long term coach for them but I think for Oral Roberts it was time and I agree with their decision. The league has passed them by and it is time to get things rolling in Tulsa. I believe a change will re-energize their program.

I was asking this year where they draw the line. Sutton has been there forever and to finish dead last in the Summit is unacceptable. Have to wonder why they waited so long after their season ended to do this.

Have to wonder why they waited so long after their season ended to do this. They had to make sure to inform everyone BUT him that they were firing him. Takes a long time to do that!

Wonder if Sutton even cared. I read that the ORU president had set some stringent recruiting guidelines such as no visible tats, signing a faith declaration and such that would make getting players to come to school there difficult to say the least.

I am not a huge fans of tattoos either but they will be passing up half of their recruiting pool with that decision and a bad decision at that. A faith declaration? Will they only accept christian athletes or will a school like that accept any religion or even an atheist. To each their own.

A faith declaration keeps the athletics true to the school's mission. I doubt they're the only ones doing this. Can recall a BYU starter being kicked off the team about 5 years ago for having pretty marital sex.

Hopefully more of out competitors do this! DUMB. DUMB. DUMB.

I was listening to some talk radio and apparently the new Oral Roberts president about 3 years ago instituted a policy where basketball players could only be accepted into the school and program if they were already a practicing Christian. I know ORU is what it is and they have a mission but what is wrong with allowing anyone in as long as they understand and abide by the culture of the school after they start attending their University. It is more then just irony that the program has gone downhill on a talent level since that policy was enacted. They are on a steady decline and after hearing that info this afternoon I feel bad for Sutton because his hands were tied. Not that there aren't devoted Christian athletes out there but I can understand why it would be a turnoff for many 18 year olds knowing they need to agree to a faith declaration before attending. Either you have some discretion with these policies or you can stand by your principals very stringently but also have to accept a little more losing then many fans would want to tolerate. A delicate balance indeed.

I think things are going to get worse and maybe a lot worse at Oral Roberts before they get better.

Don't know anything about this guy... Is he gonna have the credibility to get ORU back on its feet?
