I agree with this 100%. A-... the minus coming from the kicking game. I didn't follow the league last year but in looking at the record and the close wins, kind of thought the kicker won some games for us last year. So yes, our kicking game is a concern to me. However, i also don't think it's any secret and our coaches are going to get it corrected. I also don't think we'll need it as much this year but my opinion is we'll need it to go UNDEFEATED!!! Ya...I know I'll catch it for that statement but truly believe it. USD fixes the kicking game and we're going to kick some major a$$ this year!
GET ON BOARD PEOPLE!!! WHOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAA...WHOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!...that's the train rolling thru!!!!!!!

I would not have included the minus after the A. There is pretty much nothing more that a person can ask of this team so far. The results on the scoreboard say it all. A road win at a FBS and 77-7 and 45-7 beat downs including against a top 10 team. That is over the top impressive. There is certainly no guarantee that the great play will continue but so far there cannot be 3 FCS programs that have had a more impressive start especially considering the competition. No way does a minus get put after that A.

No way does a minus get put after that A. Weese is 1-3 on FG with misses from 27 and 30. His one make was from 21. Kickoffs haven't not been great either. Mick's grade is an overall assessment of the team's performance to this point in the season. Special teams, specifically the kicking game, are an important part of the game. The A- is fair. It's also an exceptional grade.

I agree with the A- grade. With the exception of the kicking game, everything else, including the punting game, is performing at or above expectations so far. However, unless we get the kicking game fixed, either a missed FG or giving up great field position from a poor kickoff will come back and bite us in the a$$ this year.

I'll bite and defend Weese a bit. He's had some effective pooch kicks against BGSU into an open area of their weird return formation, one resulting in a fumble recovery, and also against UND that seemed to avoid Santiago that I would imagine were ordered from the sideline. Also, if memory serves me correctly, Bergner was just 4 of 11 on field goals in the '15 season before he hit the game winner against NDSU. He took off after that. I get uncomfortable when fans get on and single out players. It's tough enough as it is.

I feel confident this group is going to get things corrected!!!

Understand why any of you might miss it, but let me throw out one stat for you. Some of our people just did some research to find out how our current coverage was stacking up against that of previous years. Last week we had 38 minutes of USD specific content. Last year it was 22 minutes per week. The point is, we are doing more. It's just a little more spread out than you're used to seeing.

The conversation about why they get an A- instead of an A or A+ centered around special teams. Tough for it not to sound harsh. But it isn't intended that way. It's just facts. The numbers are what they are. You're right about him being effective on the short, high kicks. Those have worked pretty well and if the coaching staff elects to employ that strategy going forward I will totally understand.

They were discussing some concerns others were having with the kicking game. You do a great job covering the Yotes and we all appreciate it.

I just wanted to make sure there wasn't any misunderstanding with my comments.

It has the insights I seek as a fan and gives our program a more "big time" feel. Are the early numbers promising on the new format? Giving my personal opinion, as a digital only viewer, I did prefer the block of Coyote Corner to the current situation of not knowing when to expect content. Even if I did have cable I would not be willing to sit through 22.4 minutes of coverage on other teams to get my 7.6 minutes of Coyote coverage (using your 38 minutes divided by 5 days). I may be in the minority here though. There are enough general local sport fans that I can see Midco Sports Tonight doing very well. Thanks again for the great coverage you provide us.

Early numbers are about what we were expecting. We know it will take time to build that faithful following for this particular show. It always does. I understand why the old way was easier for people like you. I can't do much about that. What I can do is continue to post segments here and on my other social media accounts.
