Yeah, I wasn't expecting a win out of Weber but I did expect a better performance. I assumed it was statistically closer when I looked at score. They were down 17-10 at half so I thought they are pretty darned good. Wow...59 total yards. Take away all razor blades from fans

Dear Coyote Football Alumni,
Well we couldn’t quite finish the task Saturday night and lost a heartbreaking game at Kansas State 27-24. We took a 24-12 lead into the fourth quarter only to give up a punt return touchdown and a 60-yard drive that gave the Wildcats the lead with around 7 minutes to play. After forcing a fumble with just under a minute to play, we mounted a drive to the Kansas State 30 yard line only to stall and have our 50 yard game tying field goal attempt fall short as time expired.
Our guys played with great passion and our first game execution level was high giving us chances to win. I was truly proud of our effort, but we must continue to improve as we move forward with our challenging nonconference schedule. The K-State game saw 18 Coyotes play their first college football snaps and our young guys responded to the bell. CB Cam Tisdale played the majority of the second half for the injured Ike Armstead and OG and Kansas native Braden Schneider got his first start just to name a few.
Offensively we were led by QB Austin Simmons who threw for almost 300 yards and one touchdown. He also added a rushing touchdown and directed our offense to 17 first half points. Senior Alex Gray led the defense and scored a TD on an interception return that gave us the 24-12 halftime lead.
We failed to capitalize on two 3rd quarter scoring opportunities, missing a 47 yard field goal and losing the ball on downs at the Kansas State 35. Those points would prove to be important at the end.
The punt return energized K-State’s 50,000 plus fans and helped to shift the momentum that we could never quite get back. Check out the complete game story at Kansas State Game Story.
This week we host former NCC rival Northern Colorado in our home opener. We need to fill the Dome and create that same home field advantage that K-State had last week. We will work this week to improve in all three phases of the game. Thanks to all of you that made the trek to Manhattan, we had a great group of supporters there.

Who owns the lots just north of the Prairie? University needs to buy those up. Perfect parking lot for Dome and SCSC.

Who owns the lots just north of the Prairie? University needs to buy those up. Perfect parking lot for Dome and SCSC. I haven't been to Vermillion in a few months, but I believe that entire lot between the Prairie and Foundation is having apartments built on top of it - minus the area on the tailgating map labeled Southwest Lot. I've been complaining for years that the tailgaiting needs to be unified, but as we move forward it gets even more divided. The past few years we've had a big grass lot and the parking lot. Now we've got 3 small grass lots, the parking lot, and the (distant) parking lot for the track complex. There isn't a ton of space to be making this dream of mine a reality, but the area north of the dome seems obvious to me. The facility could use more parking and I have no idea what they use the area east of the practice field for.

The old practice field will be used for intramural sports once the new practice field is done.

Dear Coyote Football Alumni,
We head into conference play this weekend on the road at Southern Illinois Saturday night.
Southern comes into the game with the same 1-2 record but as one of the leading offensive teams in the league. They feature a talented senior quarterback and running back to go along with an experienced group of receivers. We must rebound from our poor performance at Weber State two weeks ago and play a complete football game on Saturday night.
Defensively we were sound against Weber State allowing only one offensive touchdown but we found ourselves in several short field situations where Weber converted field goals. Offensively, we struggled to move the football. Turnovers and negative plays did not allow us to get any consistency going against a strong Weber State defense.
During the bye week, we have worked to address the issues that have hurt us over the first three weeks. It has also been good to see the return of several players to the practice field who missed the game at Weber or who have missed significant practice time over the past two weeks due to injury.
We must improve in the following areas:
Kicking game Punt Coverage – we have given up too many yards and too much field position in the punt game Offense Offensive Line – we have struggled in pass protection and in the our ability to establish a consistent ground game Defense – forcing more turnovers will be big this week just as it was against Kansas State Overall to win at Southern, it will take a great effort and we must play our best football. That’s what it will be in the Valley every week and that’s what makes the Missouri Valley conference great.
We return home the following week for our annual D-Days game against Missouri State. Hope to see you there as part of a packed Dakota Dome.

Bob notes the strong defensive performance against Weber State. It was a strong performance on its own, and doubly impressive when you consider that the offense kept them out there all day. Heading into the season I had complete confidence in our offense and not so much our defense. Funny how quickly that's changed.

This is a really good podcast and helped me put things back into perspective a little. I think Jay misses that Whitcomb & Peguero are (I’m assuming) Glenn recruits in addition to Greenfield and Simmons in the junior class. But still pretty thin on any juniors who took a redshirt their first season.

I do see now that Braden DeBoer, Tyler Johnson, and Mike Bianchi also used a redshirt in their first season 2015. Johnson has never played due to injury. The other 2 have played occasionally.

But still pretty thin on any juniors who took a redshirt their first season. What a fantastic insight by Jay. Jay is awesome with great perspective. He made one comment I totally agree with. We have 3 games remaining. We could go 0-3, 1-2, 2-1, or 3-0. Nothing would surprise me. If you haven’t listened to the interview, do it, because it makes you step back and think. Let’s just go get a win. All the positives start with that.

Good interview. Jay is right in everything he says, problem is we've been "young" since Glenn's first year. When will we not be young anymore and can start reaping some of these benefits? According to Jay we'll be young again next year. So another year we wait? Another year we lose to NDSU and SDSU? I don't know if I can take losing to State one more time.
As for the next 3 games,we may win some of them, all if them, or lose all if them, but it sounds like we'll be auditioning some young players to see what they can do. Meanwhile our opponents are making playoff pushes and are in must win at all costs mode. I already have an idea of how the end of this year will play out.
