Happy D-Days! The best weekend of the year. The yotes are 2-2, coming off a gritty (first ever) road win at So. Illinois. I think YoteForever summed it up pretty well - Missouri State is the hottest team in the conference right now and they’re coming into our house after beating Illinois State.
Jay Elsen tweeted earlier that only 6 (!!!) tickets are remaining for the game. Time to pack the dome!!!!
What are everyone’s thoughts on the upcoming game ?

Yotes need to get better on 3rd down and it has to start with establishing the run, whether that is through Simmons tucking it and going or a steady diet to Klett, Brooks, and Henry.
Last week Missouri State was 6-14 against the Redbirds on 3rd down and the Bears were only flagged 4 times for 52 yards. Their time of possession was 34:23 with 232 yard through the air and 162 on the ground for a total of 394. I should note that Illinois State had 240 yards passing and 128 yards running for a total of 368 total yards.
The Bears' QB Peyton Huslig threw 2 picks in that game so hopefully Kline, Greenfield, Peguero, Whitcomb and others up front get put some pressure and force a few bad throws down field to an improving USD secondary. Would be nice to see a few blitz packages from our defense. Looks like the Bears' #52 on defense is going to be a stud and cause fits and I believe he leads the Valley in sacks right now, if he doesn't, he's in the race.
I was very disappointed with the number of penalties the Yotes had against UNC, then at Weber, and then last week at SIU. USD had 5 penalties for 35 yards at K State; 7 penalties for 75 against UNC; 11 penalties for 101 yards at Weber; and 16 penalties for 138 yards at SIU. Not a good trajectory and we are very fortunate it did not cost us the game against the Salukis. There is way too much trash talking going on right now. I have read various commenters note on here for years that they like to see a little attitude and kids play with a chip on their shoulder. You can do that, but when the whistle blows, get back in the huddle and make another play for your team. If you did something good, we all know it, your coaches know it, and the guy you beat knows it. Time to start acting like you know it too.
Finally, I think special teams looks much improved. Our punter is turning in to a good one and our field goal and extra points looked dramatically improved.
Looking forward to a great Saturday in Vermillion. Going to be a tough Bears squad to beat, but if the Yotes stop shooting themselves in the foot with penalties I like our chances. Go Yotes!

I can't believe how quickly this game went from looking like one of the easiest games on the schedule to one of our tougher games. Mo State has been so bad for so many years, and now suddenly ranked coming into D Days. You just can't count anyone out in this conference.

I must be blind I didn't see this thread. Here goes:
10/6/18
MSU @ USD PREDICTED WINNER: USD -5 SPREAD: 5 MYTHICAL SCORE: USD 32 MSU 27 OVER/UNDER: 59
We like USD to win. We are taking them to cover the 5 point spread but feel the under is the better choice.
Although USDs running offense is a little worrisome the effectiveness of both teams defenses against the pass should open this game up in USDs favor. The Yotes have a more effective passing game and are more likely to enjoy an average day or better.
One thing that is holding both these teams back can be found looking at how each teams offense does against their own defense on an average day against the leagues average team.
USDs offense would score 35 points against the average team on their schedule while their defense gives up 27. That's an 8 point strength index score.
MSU is 28-28. This may indicate they always need a break to win. It also shows balance on both sides of the ball.
For comparison JMU is 43-8 They are very good on both sides of the ball.

Lotta betters putting money on the hot hand. Too bad they have no idea that their bet is going to be crushed by that D DAYS MAGIC™.

Per 5dimes Yotes favored by 3.5, O/U 65.5 starting line was USD by 7.5 7.5 seemed really high to me given the circumstances of the two teams, so 3.5 makes more sense to me. That said, my guess is a double digit Yote win.

FYI, all links to conference teams are linked in a post pinned at the top of the MVFC or Summit sections of the board. I try to keep them up to date, so if a link changes just PM me.

That said, my guess is a double digit Yote win. In the Dome? 7.5 seems close, though 10 feels more right. 3.5 is way low and you should definitely jump on USD at that spread. Look at the history of how USD plays in the Dome. The team is 1-2 TDs better at home than on the road historically and there have been some good teams that have come into the Dome and just been smashed. ETA: The line is moving towards MSU because Sagarin has this at USD -4. There is a lot of hype for MSU as they have emerged to win a couple of games, but they haven't won on the road. We've seen this before with our own team as it started to emerge and get better. We could win at home but would lose, sometimes badly, on the road. Going on the road to win is a learning process. MSU is not there yet. Traditionally, you give 3 points to the home team for home field advantage. So subtract 3 and the bettors are saying this is a pick 'em game. You think USD and MSU are even? Seriously? Would not shock me to see USD blow the doors off this team and win by 20+, restoring some order to the conference and popping the MSU balloon.

My hesitation with the MSU hype is with the Northern Arizona win. Wasn’t their starting QB out injured? Then you get the Redbirds coming off a big emotional win and can’t handle it and think they can just show up in Springfield and win.
