Back to the road. The women will travel to Missouri State, back home to play NAIA Bellevue, then back to Mizzou to take on the Tigers. Lots of back-and-forth.
This match-up with Missouri State tomorrow will be interesting. MSU is 1-4 on the season, but hold a Massey rating of #148. Their lone win was destroying #149 Ball State at home, 74-54. All of their losses have come on the road and were close:
@ Wichita State (in OT) @ Missouri (by 4) @ Santa Clara (by 4) @ North Texas (in OT)
Massey has us winning 71-66. This is significant because in 4 of our last 5 games, we haven't broken 70 points. I think this game and opponent could be tougher than we would like. Kind-of a trap game situation on the road.

Looking at MSU's stats, what stands out is their rebounding, shot-blocking and 3-Pt defense. With good rebounding and shot-blocking one might assume they have a lot of size in the post. 3-Pt defense is more associated with quick, harassing guards. Could be the guards blocking perimeter shots. I haven't scouted the team, so i don't know which is true.
Missouri State is good at: 17.0 Off-Rebounds/game (#29) 41.6 Tot-Rebounds/game (#76) +5.8 Rebound margin (#81)
4.2 Blocks/game (#69)
26.7% 3-PT Defense (#62)

Missouri State is bad at:
22.4 Personal Fouls/Game (#320) 64.9% Free-throw shooting (#236)
Shooting Efficiency: 38.8 FG% (#221) 27.9 3P% (#256)
Defense inside the arc: 42.2 FG% (#261) 68.4 points allowed (#241)
So it appears they are generating a lot of offense from second-chance points off of offensive rebounds. Limit those opportunities, and we will be in good shape.
They foul a lot, so it looks like we might be in another rock-fight. At least we are experienced at that, with all our dirty Norwegian thugs. We shoot better at the line, so bring it on.
Looks like they might be selling out to guard the 3, blocking a lot of perimeter shots, at the expense of allowing more ball or dribble-penetration. At least that's what the stats look like. I could be wrong. Tay-Fred and Sjerven might be our high scorers if that is the case.

Looking at their roster, they do have size. 3 starters over 6-foot, and a 6'-4" center that gets a lot of minutes.
They also play a deep bench. Lots of minutes and points from the bench, even with the number of close games they have played. Probably helps with all the fouling they do.
#22 Alexa Willard is a 6'-2" starting guard that appears to be their best shooter, but the scoring has been spread out among many players.

ESPN+ is good. I hope they (MSU) have a good broadcast team/video.

Interesting lineup change. Took McKeever and Frederick out in favor of Monica and Sjerven. This was our best lineup against Iowa St. and it seems to be working so far.

I’m impressed with the dribble penetration on a good MSU defense from Duffy, Lamb, MadMac, and Arens. Coach must have seen something in scouting?

Willard hitting lots of 3s now...
I didn’t see the first half. Announcer says Hannah has 7 blocks!

I'm really enjoying this lineup of Arens, Arens, Duffy, Lamb, and Sjerven. They outscored Missouri State by about 25 points in the time they played together tonight. We are sometimes harsh on Coach P, but clearly this was something they saw in film. So Kudos to them.
