On Saturday, we get the 2nd game of the "offset" double-header.
Aside from the trip to Brookings, This could be the toughest game left on the schedule. Massey has us winning:
74-61
ORU lost two of their three best players from last year to graduation (Ihim) and transfer (Martianez), but retain Soph sharp-shooter Maya Mayberry. They are 3-2 in conference, just coming home from a 55-68 loss in Brookings. Although they have also lost to North Dakota at home, this team has a very good defense, and could be a handful if we are not shooting well IMO.

I have not had the pleasure of watching ORU play, but statistically this is a good team. They seem to fit right in to the Summit League profile. Most stats are in the average (for the conference) range. Really the only bad stats are their below-average rebounding and the fact that they foul a lot (we do too).
Here is what they are very good at:
Shooting efficiency defense: Allowing 38.8% FG (#1 in Summit) Allowing 27.4% 3P (#1)
Arc Shooting: 9.2 ---3PT per game (#2) behind Denver 35.5% 3PT shooting (#2) behind Denver
Turnovers 9.9 Steals/Game (#2) behind WIU 17.2 TO forced (#3) behind WIU & USD 14.4 TO / Game (#3) behind USD & SDSU +2.8 TO margin (#3) behind WIU & USD

Player to watch: #23 Lakota Beatty 5'-8" Senior Guard 14.8 points / 4.7 reb / 3.6 Assist (leads team in these categories)Shooting: 45/41/82On a side note, Lakota is the older sister of Ashley Beatty, the ORU player that committed suicide in the summer before last season. Lakota switched her number to #23 to honor her sister. Pretty inspirational that she is having such a great season. Hard to root against a kid like her. Also, she is from Oklahoma but has Standing Rock Sioux roots. To me it is also inspirational to have a successful Indian (they call themselves Indian, it's not offensive) woman that is not only succeeding on the court, but finishing her degree. There is so much basketball talent on the reservations in SD, but most of those athletes are not successful in college BB teams, due to many different cultural and socio-economic reasons.

One note - the game is on Friday, not Saturday.

Watching the ORU @ SDSU game on the ESPN app, the Eagles really do a good job mixing up defenes, switching from man to a swarming zone. Very active hands. I thought the game was called a little tight at times, getting ORU players in trouble with “hands in the cookie jar”. But even with that, the zone gave the Jacks fits, taking bad shots, bad passes, turnovers.
The poor rebounding is noticeable, as is their lack of size in the post. I think Hannah will have another big game. They have good quickness, and get back on defense in transition. They drive to the basket well, especially Mayberry. She doesn’t look for the kick-out much, though. Just commits to the drive.

forum.orusports.com/index.php?/topic/10896-coaches-show-2018-19/Here is a link to the ORU message board thread with their WBB coaches shows links (Mondays). I would link the audio more directly, but couldn't find the primary source. This Monday they talked with Associate Head Coach Kyron Stokes. They talk a lot more about past games than future, so there really isn't anything in there on USD, but if you want to get some more insight on ORU it's a 30-minute interview.

Frederick seems to be effective around the hoop. Around the 3pt line, no so much (since Creighton anyway).

Is that right? Lakota Beaty with 6 3s in the 3rd quarter? Holy smokes.

Ya and actually neither has Lamb. Shooting a VERY low percentage from 3 this season. Would really love her to drive more.

First Loven, now Beatty. The 3 point shooters get hot against the ladies. 7 of 10 and contested and deep.
Beatty is 7 of 7 on threes in the 2nd half.
