When I say the gap was closing, I mean from last year to this year. SDSU was having a down year until the last month or so and USD had upped their game. The gap was definately closing over the back half of the year. SDSU has righted the ship but they were not a real good team for awhile this year. Now with the loss to HB the momentum has been slowed down a bit.

For those of us that actually know women's basketball, USD didn't close the gap at anytime during the year even when SDSU was down.

I was shocked to see that score from the USD women. I thought they would at least make it to the Semis. But upsets are a part of March Madness...

Bad way to end the season. However, looking back the USD women have a lot to be proud of this season. They are on the right track to becoming a successful team. Competition in the Summit will be more difficult, but the women should be able to compete next year. Unfortunately, this loss leaves a sour note on the end of an otherwise solid season.

For those of us that actually know women's basketball, USD didn't close the gap at anytime during the year even when SDSU was down. That is simply a ridiculous statement. So are you saying that USD is no closer to SDSU last year than they are right now. I simply disagree. Closing the gap doesn't mean that they are better than SDSU, it means that they aren't as far behind as they were a year ago. Obviously USD is much better and SDSU is at best where they were a year ago. That is called closing the gap.

Until USD makes at least one NCAA tournament appearance, they will be no closer to SDSU. That's the way it works. That's like saying Tennessee is catching up to UConn since the Huskies lost a game this year. They aren't catching up to them. As long as SDSU is making the tourny, USD is far behind them until USD makes the tourney. Plain and simple.
Ask Michigan and Michigan State about it.

They struggled in the beginning of the year to find a leader. As the season progressed the seniors started to play as seniors, but the younger kids have stepped up huge. Don't be misled by records. The schedule that SDSU played was brutal, and had they played the way they did for the final 12-13 games, they would have defeated a couple top 50 programs. That being said, at least we will finally be able to see if indeed the gap is being closed starting next year.

When the two teams played last year USD was just not very good. They have improved alot, I would say moreso than what SDSU has improved by in comparison. That by definition is lessening the gap between the two programs. Or in other words they are closing the gap. Closing meaning they are in the specific process of getting closer to SDSU vs getting further away from them. That doesn't mean there is no gap, it just means the gap is smaller than it was when they played last year. That is my opinion only but to not recognize that the gap is closing is to basically saying that USD is not improving or are improving less than the Jacks are and I still have a hard time believing that the Jacks are much better than they were last year.
