In all honesty I’ve been looking forward to this game for a long time and I still am. The Montana game is in the rear view mirror. Everyone is disappointed but I don’t think it will define our season. Unfortunately we don’t have a game to “fix” things. We have to play the #3 team in the country and hope for the best. To me the best is to play better than everyone thinks we can play and get out of Norman with no injuries.
The overall team speed we will see will be nothing like we’ve seen before. I could see it getting ugly early, or I could see it where they drive the ball in bunches but make mistakes and possibly turn it over a couple of times because the level of their intensity will be somewhere around zero. To me the biggest thing that I pray won’t happen is our confidence goes completely in the tank. Play respectable and enjoy the moment. The players can tell their kids someday “ ol dad played against one of the best teams in the country”.
To some of the comments posted in the Montana thread I get everyone’s disappointment. Hell I’m disappointed. But when we start complaining about not seeing the President or AD or the team not doing a walk through, we are out of bounds. President Gestring is doing a great job and I was told she was with the students in their tailgate area. The focus is on the students and that’s where she belongs. In addition, President Gestring is pro athletics and extremely focused in growing our sports program. In my opinion she’s done a bang up job. Regarding David Herbster nor being seen moving about the tailgate is wrong. I saw him in our area but I will tell you he had to deal with a major issue. One of Montana’s buses broke down on the way to Vermillion and they were dealing with a potential late start. I’m sure that took a great deal of time. I know both President Gestring and David Herbster and they are both extremely receptive to mingling with the fans.
Lastly, the complaint about the team not walking through the tailgate in my opinion is wrong. I was there from 10 am on, and it rained darn near 3 hours. I honestly don’t remember in years past how much before kickoff the team walked through the crowd but I have to believe it was more than an hour before kickoff. If I coached there’s no way in hell would I have my team walk in crappy weather. To much negative. And to be honest, the tailgate crowd was poor. I get it was weather related but if the team walked through an empty parking lot as a coach I could see it having a negative affect on my team. A “debbie downer”. Secondly I don’t want my players walking in rain 60 minutes before kickoff. That makes no sense whatsoever.
Lastly, those questioning Bob Nielsen as our coach I’ll debate you all day long. You have to have continuity in a program. He will win. I’m not saying it’s perfect but Coach Nielsen is the man for this job. Period. If you think he’s happy with last Saturday you’re wrong. But games like this happen. You have a new defensive coordinator crap happens. I’m not making excuses for Saturday but to throw in the towel and start trashing everyone is wrong. Let’s get through Oklahoma, make the best of it, then right the ship. This season is a long way from being over. Have faith. I do

I'm ready for the trip down to Oklahoma. Should be a fun environment for all involved. It's going to be tough to learn much more about where we stand, but hopefully we can find some improvements and victories.
Anyone know of anything special to see/do in Norman?

I completely agree with yote forever. We are lucky to have the administrators we do and their concern for the students and fans is top notch. The team will continue to improve, half of the teams that played this last weekend lost and many looked terrible playing what they consider inferior competition, read Tennessee, Missouri, Arizona to name some of the big boys. I'm heading to Oklahoma on Thursday because my wife wants to visit Pioneer Woman's Mercantile located in Pawhuska, OK. Howling Pack is having a tailgate in the grass lot 1201 Jenkins Ave directly across the southeast corner of the stadium. Enjoy the experience at one of the iconic football stadiums in our great country.

Anyone know of anything special to see/do in Norman? Longtime lurker, enjoy your self in Norman I'm assuming you just want to focus on gameday type stuff? Hit Campus Corner, Find Othellos You'll meet plenty of folks whole offer up free food and drink, and just shoot the breeze Linking some general stuff General Game Day Info soonersports.com/sports/2019/8/12/208803887.aspxFan/Fest - Family friendly music, entertainment etc soonersports.com/sports/2019/8/9/208802938.aspxI generally suggest staying in Bricktown or visiting Bricktown in OKC for the nightlife. Norman tends to shut down on Gameday

OU grad and fan here. I visited Vermillion and USD a few years ago and enjoyed the downtown and the campus very much. Got me some gear and have followed the Yotes since then as one of my FCS teams.
For anybody coming to the game in Norman...........
First, it will be impossible to get a room at this late date in Norman. The only place you might get one is at the US Postal training center. They call it something else now. That is where the OU team stays the night before. There should be plenty of rooms in Moore, OK and OKC which is 20 minutes away during normal traffic. If you stay in OKC the night before as was mentioned Bricktown is there east of dowtown along with Automobile Alley. North of downtown is Midtown, west of Downtown is Film Row and a bout a mile west of downtown is the Plaza district which is OKC's hipster district. There are a few other districts but these are the best ones in OKC as far as giving you a unique look at OKC. The OKC bombing memorial is just on the north edge of downtown.
If you go to Norman I would suggest you hit downtown Norman the night before and campus corner the day of the game. Downtown is a little less than a mile north of campus. Campus Corner is adjacent to campus on the north side. The other place to go is "The Mont" which is just off campus corner to the east on Boyd and Classen. There will be plenty of tailgating around the edges of campus but none directly on campus.
Your tailgate is going to be in an interesting spot. 1201 Jenkins is an open area that used to house Jefferson House. "Jeff House" was the jock dorm during the Bud Wilkinson years at OU. So it's hallowed ground. Next to it is Wilkinson House which was the jock dorm during most of Switzer's time and it is where the scandals of the late 1980s occurred. North of that is Heisman Park where 5 of OU's seven Heisman have statues. Still waiting on Baker and Kyler's statues.
On campus the area around the student Union and what are called the North and South Ovals are the pretty parts of campus. The OU band marches from the Music building down Boyd Ave to Asp on their way to the stadium about 45 minutes before game time. That is a scene. West of Campus is a neighborhood not unlike South of and East of USD's main campus where stately old homes and Greek Houses are located. An area called South Greek is newer and has some newer Greek Homes. It is basically east of the residential towers that you will see. East of campus is an area called the Duck Pond which is the old golf course and is kind of a picnic spot. It won't be far from your tailgate.
The crowd is early arriving at OU. So to avoid traffic you need to get there a couple of hours before game time. Also, the pregame is a big deal with the Band entrance and all that stuff. Starts 20 minutes before kickoff.
After the game traffic is REALLY BAD and somewhat confusing as they have roads going one way that are not normally one way. Might be worth staying on campus corner for an hour or so before leaving town.
When I was at USD everybody was great. In fact I got to watch a little bit of the team workout. I was there to visit the Physical Therapy School. Enjoyed that as well.
Enjoy your stay in Norman and I'll be sure and "Hate State" later in the season.

Good news for everybody I know headed to Norman, they are all of the "come early, stay late" variety. Traffic shouldn't be a problem for that crew.
Watch party in downtown Vermillion along with Ribs, Rods, Rock n Roll for those not headed to OU.

100% agree great post. I will argue with anyone that Bob is the man, and Herbster is phenomenal and President Gestring is so beyond amazing people underestimate her. People are just ignorant morons sometimes. Thanks to the OU fans for the info. Looking forward to this trip! In all honesty I’ve been looking forward to this game for a long time and I still am. Disappointing that the sites I've checked on pay per view all list just the USD/OU game at $55!! Now I know why they sell out the stadium every game! As USD fans know the Coyote game feed is FREE for home games!!

The Sooners have one PPV football game per year.
If in the USD region, find the nearest bar that is showing the game and spend the $55 on food and beverage. I have heard that Leo's is showing the game in Verm & Bertz(?) is showing it in Beresford. I am sure there will be numerous options in Sioux Falls.

At the same time, give credit to Texas for blocking a Big 12 Network in favor of their own ESPN Longhorn Network.

At the same time, give credit to Texas for blocking a Big 12 Network in favor of their own ESPN Longhorn Network. It's not just Texas. The Big 12 entered into a media rights deal selling their Tier 3 rights (like this game would be) to ESPN for content for the ESPN+ app. All the conference teams except Texas (LHN) and Oklahoma, who retained their Tier 3 media rights. Oklahoma can make more money going it on their own than they can with sticking with the rest of the Big 12, just like Texas. Another reason I believe that when these media rights deals start coming up in the next couple of years there is a strong possibility of more realignment and the Big 12 is vulnerable. The ACC is locked in and now has the ACC Network, as is the SEC with SEC Network, Big Ten with BTN, and the PAC with the poor PAC 12 Network, but they also have location protecting them. The Big 12 is not unified and Texas and Oklahoma have shown they are looking out for #1. End thread drift.
