Houston Baptist had a head turner against UTEP last week, losing 36-34. But then you have to remember UTEP went 1-11 last year with a 20 point lost to Northern Arizona.
Looking past that, Houston Baptist has just one FCS win in their past 2+ seasons. HBU is also on a 19-game losing streak in conference play.
I picked this game before the season as the one I won't be making the trip to Verm for. I'll be very disappointed if we can't figure these guys out and put together a great performance.

HBU seems to put up big numbers on offense, but gives up huge numbers on defense. They hung tough against UTEP, but the Miners are ranked number 1 in ESPN's bottom 10 for whatever that's worth. Last week's opponent, Texas Wesleyan, would probably be akin to playing Dakota State seeing that it's an NAIA school. Huskies basically destroyed them as they should have. All in all they're somewhat hard to judge. Despite last season's conference record they did put up big points in some of their conference games. They like to spread it out and throw it all over the field so they'll most likely hit on a few and put up some points. We should be able to put up more.

A loss this weekend is inexcusable.

Not to make any excuses or downplay our play thus far, this is not the time to panic. My hope is we would come out of the pre season 3-1 but now hope to be 2-2. Losing to Oklahoma was expected. The bottom line is their skill players on both sides of the ball are just so much quicker and faster. I watched line play and honestly our D line held their own. Greenfield gave their left tackle all he wanted. O line has a ways to go but there’s promise. That’s good.
So now to play the comparable card consider this. Last week Montana beat North Alabama 61-17. Week one North Alabama beat Western Illinois 26-17. Montana is better than I thought coming into the game but now I have the opinion they might win the Big Sky. So what does all this mean for USD?
The season is a long ways from being tanked. We now have to perform which means a whole new level of focus and drive. I think the Coyotes can find themselves. If they do we will be competitive in every game from here on out. No more what ifs. Just perform. One game at a time and find your stride.
I believe in this staff. I think we gave enough talent to still win 7 maybe 8 games. But it will be ONE AT A TIME.
Don’t panic. Play with a chip. And let the chips fall where they fall.

I'm wondering how all the flooding and storm damage that has hit eastern South Dakota this week will affect attendance for this game. Obviously, priorities would have to lie with safety and recovery. Some of the pictures from around the state are surreal.

After seeing the Montana v UNA score last week I had the same opinion, Montana is a dang good team. I believed that after our game with them and last week confirmed it. Thing is, we had our chances. Lost by 14 but we also had two drives stall deep in their territory in the second half.
Just win the next one.

Where the hell is Ben Klett? He should have been on the series near the goal line. Has he been a jack hole or something at practice where they won’t put him in? If not, I don’t understand?

Again with this defense? I don’t get it? Supposed to be the best thing since sliced bread....guess we will have to wait for another game for it to come into its own...we have lots of games to work it...we can wait!

Special teams?! What the?! Extremely poor kick/punt coverage. Basically very underwhelming play all around.

For the record, Ben Klett is a wonderful young man. No idea why he’s not in on short yardage. Dumb in my opinion.

Ball inside the 1 yard line and we're in the shotgun formation?
