Before I get into my post I just want to start by saying I completely understand why everyone is puzzled, pissed, shocked, perplexed, apathetic, and any other adjective that describes your state of mind. I get it. Hell I don’t like it. The coaches don’t like it and by god the players better not like it. But after 3 games it is what it is.
I hate hearing people say they’re not coming anymore. Or Bob should be fired. Or the coordinator should be fired. Or position coaches are inept. We are better than this as a fan base. My hope is it stops for now. There is no one more bewildered than Coach Nielson. This has to b one of the longest weeks of his life. I guaranty you he never even gave it a thought we’d be 0-3 and lose the last one like we did. But you know what? We’re 0-3 and going on the road to play a Big Sky team. Very winnable game. To the players.....play to win....not play to lose. Don’t look over your shoulder and 2nd guess everything. Play with the abandon you’re capable of. Go out and absolutely kick the crap out them. Leave no doubt.
To the fans, don’t give up. I will never quit on the Coyotes unless they quit on themselves. Come home 1-3 and get a D Days win over a good Indiana State. Then hit the road for Missouri State. We could easily be 3-3. We could easily be 0-6. I don’t know, that’s up to the players. But by golly don’t ever quit. Never.
I have faith in this team yet. I’m not blind but I’m not stupid. To pi$$ and moan doesn’t help. Back this team. Back Coach Nielson and back the Coyotes. We’re starting to sound like a fan base north of Vermillion.
I played on the ‘78 team and we started 1-3. Our problem was we couldn’t score. We’re having difficulty defending. Either way the ship can be set straight. We can still raise a lot of hell in this league. Please don’t give up.

I appreciate your passion and optimism, but I disagree with you in that people need to be held accountable. Accountability starts at the top. I hope the decisions that have to be made get made and until then I am going to spend my Saturdays doing something other than watching the defense play weaker than wet toilet paper.

Yoteforever, very well said and I agree with you 100%. It is what it is at this point and there is not one kid or coach in this program that wants to be in this situation. It's not major adjustments that need to be made, it's paying attention to details and making sure that everyone (including the fan base) is on the same page. As someone said in an earlier post, Coach Nielson has not forgotten how to coach and run a top notch program. Let him do his job and get the ship righted. He has 2 national titles under his belt, no one on this board can say that I guarantee!! Our job is to support our players and cheer them on win, lose, or draw. Yes, there are distinct things that need to be addressed, but we have to trust that they are being discussed in the coach's office. The world has not fallen apart at this point. Luckily, there aren't any forums out there to post on when sales aren't good in our businesses or we have a bad day at work and lose a huge account.

Good perspective from Yoteforever. I have never left a Coyote football game more disappointed than I was last Saturday. Obviously the team wasn't ready to play, then throw in a couple of injuries to an already depleted cornerback position, and the game was lost. That being said, I will definitely tune in to the Coyote Sports Network for the pregame show on Saturday and already have Pluto TV loaded on my Roku so I can watch the game starting at 3PM. What else would I do on Saturday? If the Yotes are playing, I am either there in person (have only missed 1 home game in 7 years - don't understand Saturday weddings during football season) or tuned in on TV or radio. Not catching the Coyotes in action on a football Saturday is almost worst than skipping church on Sunday.
Absolutely a huge game this Saturday. A W this Saturday and we could be 3 - 3 heading into the UNI game in mid October. A L this Saturday and things could get ugly.

This is my last post on this and I guess I think enough of everybody that I don’t want to poo poo their frustrations and look like I’m the ultimate cheerleader. But at the end of this day if you are 100% realistic about this there’s not a lot that anyone can do about our start. It sucks. Everyone knows it. Is it fixable? I honestly don’t know, but I’d like to think so. If it’s fixable Bob will get it fixed. If it’s a case where we don’t have the quality athletes and we missed our mark on recruiting then that’s a different matter. I DO NOT believe that’s the case. If it’s position coaching then Bob has to fix that..period. But even if it is that you’re not going to change it after week #3. That’s unrealistic.
I’m not sure what some posters on here want. Do you want Coach Nielson to come out and belittle his players? Or coaches? That simply isn’t going to happen nor should it. Good grief. Then to say I’m not coming to anymore games because our defense sucks? Especially after watching Simmons light them up for a school record? It’s not like we have to fix both sides of the ball. One side. Yes I understand we need to be better at running, especially short distances. But people it’s not like we are anemic offensively. We can and I think we will win games Big 12 style. 48-44. 51-48. IT CAN BE DONE.
When a team loses their confidence as quickly as ours has, there’s really only two possible outcomes. The first is the unthinkable and that’s how it remains. The second is their backs are against the ropes, you’re having the hell beat out of you not only by our opponent but our fans as well, so you come out swinging. Flailing. Throwing a punch at absolutely everything. If you do that and win confidence is built up some. Then you come home Dakota Days and beat Indiana State the same way. Now you’re on a little roll. Confidence is rising. Coaching changes and is reflective of that attitude. The whole damn thing changes.
But when our fans turn on the team and basically say they’re gonna do about anything other than support the Coyotes to me that’s wrong. That’s just me. But I’ll say this. If you enter the Dome with the attitude it’s gonna be a $hit show, then go play golf, or walk the dog, or anything than attending the game. Bad karma spreads. It’s absorbed by everyone.
Lastly, if you’re a player reading this board...shame on you. Get your A double s in the locker room and start changing the attitudes amongst your team. Don’t take or accept anything less than 100% from everyone suited up. This season from this point on will define the level of leadership this team has. Don’t accept failure. Fix it. Move on and compete HARD. To the fans on Dakota Day be raucous. Create an environment where the team feeds off you and they do the same.
Then let’s talk about it at the end of the season. I for one will be at every game.

FWIW, HBU's offense/QB isn't a fluke.

Not to argue with you but based on your reply I’d ask you this: What do you propose happens right now so people are held accountable? Bob needs to tell coach Johansen that he has to adjust his scheme and that, if he can't do so, Bob will take over the defense. I know we have some injuries at corner, but the guys that are healthy are still good athletes. They don't deserve to be put in position to fail so constantly. I'd rather see us force the other team to beat us deep with our talented safeties than give up 5 free yards every play. As for the players, I don't want to speak badly of them, because I think they are better than what the scoreboard shows. However the coaches and captains need to be on high alert for poor attitudes. Dejection and frustration can easily take over in these situations. I've seen it happen. Those players need to be told that their anger is justifiable but that their attitudes, if not adjusted, will cost them playing time. Only fighters get to play. I don't want to come across as someone who is giving up on the team. I am hopeful that this can be fixed, but as of right now, it's just too painful to watch.
