I’m calling it 24-14 Coyotes in a game not as close as the score.

Win this week and this team is back in the playoff hunt. Gigantic opportunity in Cedar Falls.

It’s an opportunity to find out if we’ve simply rebounded because of the schedule or if we can perform against a good team. That’s why they play the games.

2 questions, not digs - I just don't know anything about UNI this year:
- Why exactly is UNI ranked top-15? Their wins are against Southern Utah (1-6), Idaho St. (2-3 and a non-counter) and YSU (0-2 MVFC). Was there a bunch of pre-season hype for them?
- What is UNI good at this year?

UNI gets the benefit of the doubt every year. It's just the way it is.

I always keep my eye on the PantherNation message board leading up to this annual game. As a general rule over the years the participants there don't think much of USD. They are very arrogant and condescending toward the Yotes.

So I checked in there yesterday and BCPanther said, "USD is just what our offensive confidence ordered." Well I guess we shall see how much confidence they get out of playing the Coyotes on Saturday won't we? Hopefully it will be shattered.

That forum is a cesspool. I tried to engage 6 years ago and was laughed out of the place. Vindication came in a double OT win.

Lots of miserable fans there. They were so close to the promised land of a national title for so many years, and act like their program is still up there in spite of the Dakota schools gutting their chances. Maybe someday they'll realize that they're in purgatory.

Just to play devil's advocate:

They took a good Iowa State team to three overtimes.  Iowa State's only losses on the season are to two ranked FBS teams.
YSU isn't a bad team.  They were leading SDSU for most of that game.

I'm not saying them winning is a foregone conclusion, but I'll expect a tough opponent.  Especially their defense.

1) Iowa State game
2) Reputation/name recognition (earned over time)
3) Proven level of talent based upon the number of players in the NFL

This will be a great test for the Yotes.  A road win against UNI will put us back in the playoff chase and give the players another boost in confidence.  Should be a great game.

I like the way the Yotes are playing, the OL and DL are improving game by game. Having a running game with Simmons, makes him that much more difficult to defend. Go Yotes!

Along those lines, I think the best chance for USD to win is to try to turn this game into a shootout. Points, points, points, and the defense doesn't so much stop the UNI offense but just slow them down, but most importantly get turnovers that we can turn into points.

I just don't think we're ready to get into a defensive slugfest with a UNI defense that has earned a solid reputation over the years. Think we need to turn this into a scorefest like the HBU game was, except make that one key play to win it this time.

I definitely think it’s a game the Yotes can win. Should be fun to watch Simmons take on UNI’s DE Emerson Smith...both were MVFC players of the week a couple weeks ago. I hope we’re up to the challenge. Let’s go boys!
