I was going to post a "Deep Thought" by Jack Handey, ... but as I scrolled through various Jack Handey Deep Thoughts that have been made into memes, I realized that memes are just basically an offshoot of Deep Thoughts, which came first.
So by attempting to be clever with a Jack Handey original Deep Thought, I would just be doing the same old tired tradition of posting a meme to appear clever and ironic. This whole exercise has made me sad.
Go Yotes!

Great opportunity in front of the team this week. A chance to make the rest of the conference take notice instead of writing off the last two weeks as weak opponents. They were bad, don't get me wrong but I think the Yotes played at level that would be competitive with any team in the conference.
In any scenario, I don't see this being a blow out win for the yotes like we've seen the last two weeks. If there is a blowout, I have a bad feeling we'd be on the wrong side of it. More likely, in my mind at least, is a pretty competitive game that goes a hard 4 quarters. So here's my prediction.
Yotes: 31 UNI: 24
I'm taking the yotes because I think the defense has mad some big strides and the offense continues to impress. And mostly because Farley is a d bag and annoys the hell out of me.
Go Yotes

Coulda, shoulda, woulda. Last 2 years we beat ourselves. Hopefully on Saturday we don’t leave the game once again saying coulda, shoulda, woulda.

I'm going to miss the game again tomorrow, outside of maybe a few fleeting glimpses. I agreed to do what sounded like a very fun event for work but all I can think about is missing the USD game.
Humongous opportunity at hand for the Yotes tomorrow, and I really like our odds. It was mentioned that we beat ourselves the last two times out against UNI and I completely agree (especially last time at UNI). They are a tough team as always but so are we. Win this one and I expect the team to go on a tear like we have never seen.

This is really the last time the Yotes can be 'under the radar'. Most fans FCS fans pegged this team as quite horrible - after giving up 31, 70, and 53 - with thinking Montana was the outlier at just 31. I think that has worked to our advantage, and will again today (for the last time). Yotes 27 UNI 17

Despite several stupid mistakes that have frankly kept UNI in the game, we delivered in the first half. Take away two mental errors on the defense, and this unit is playing lights out again. This is our game for the taking. Eliminate mental errors and we will win this game.

Too many big plays given up by the D and just an odd game from the O, especially second half. Overall, turnovers were killer. Punt fumble just cannot happen.

Coulda, shoulda, woulda. Last 2 years we beat ourselves. Hopefully on Saturday we don’t leave the game once again saying coulda, shoulda, woulda. History repeats itself. Unfortunately for us it did. The final results of the game truly was not what I thought would happen but I also believe in looking at what happened and analyzing it from there. So here’s my take. And before I start I know I’ll be accused of being the ultimate cheerleader and you’re probably right, but I call it as I see it. YESTERDAYS GAME Statistically we went toe to toe with UNI. Last year we went toe to toe with them but lost the game by about the exact same score. Why? Turnovers. Period. You can’t give the ball to your opponent 6 times and expect to win when you are not more talented then the team across from you. Are we less talented? I don’t think so. We’re younger, less experienced....but not less talented. If you were at the game you’d know they didn’t “pound” us up front any more than we pounded them. UNI’s front seven is very good. Our O line held their own but didn’t dominate like the last two games due to the fact they weren’t better. That’s learning lesson #1. You can’t take success from a prior week or two and think it’s automatically going to transcend to that game. That’s what happens with youth. They can’t draw on those past experiences. In my mind the play of the game was the interception for TD UNI had deep in our own territory. Austin made a mistake, and mistakes happen. I know him well enough that it haunts him. But what made it the play of the game was the absolute incredibly STUPID penalty by Kai Henry with the personal foul and ejection from the game. That penalty cast a pall over our team in a negative way, and removed the running back from the game that had prepared all week for this game. Enter Ben Klett. And I also love Ben as a player, but over the past few weeks there have been a number of posters questioning the coaching staff why Klett didn’t carry the ball more. Internally myself I’ll admit I was thinking the same thing .....at times. But what you have to know and remember is we aren’t at practice we don’t see what’s going on. Yesterday Henry was averaging 4.8 yards per carry and Klett 1.4. Even though the sample size is small the results might be telling. That penalty and ejection changed the game and I’ll say the penalty was well deserved. No excuse for it. Reminded me last year when time after time we had inexcusable late hits for penalties that cost us 2 games I can think of. The first 5-7 minutes of the 2nd half we came out flat. I wasn’t in the locker room but if I had to make a guess it’s because the coaching staff went off about stupid crap like that. Nothing positive comes from that. Lesson #2....quit giving games away because of lack of focus and discipline. Play our game and let the coaches put us in position to win. Again, we aren’t likely to be much more talented then our opponents, so beat them with coaching, focus, and passion. Especially passion. In the end yesterday was a hard pill to swallow but the truth of the matter is we are going to experience it from time to time until we have dominate players that can play through times like this. REMAINING SEASON Although I had us at 2-2 or 3-1 out of conference, with Montana being the swing game, I picked us 5-3 in the league. The losses I picked were NDSU, UNI, and Western Illinois. For some damn reason UNI gives us fits. I still think we will be 5-3 at worst ( not good enough to make playoffs ) but now believe 6-2 is in our wheel house. I do think we can beat Southern Illinois and Youngstown State at home, beat WIU in Macomb, and play the Jacks for 2nd in the league at 6-2 and a “possible” playoff berth. I now firmly believe there could be a 3 way tie for 2nd. SDSU beats UNI, loses to NDSU and comes to Vermillion having to beat us to make the playoffs. UNI still has to go to Illinois State, another team that could feasibly be 6-2 but we don’t play them, so therefore no head to head comparisons. I want SDSU to beat UNI and Illinois State and lose to the Bison making our last game for the marbles. This is how I envisioned the season playing out. We control our destiny. Yesterday was bad from the how we lost mentality, but IF we learn from it then move on. If we didn’t, then we’re likely to be 4-4. I bet the coaching staff drills this into our team in the upcoming weeks. We are good enough to play with any team in this league if both teams play their best with the possible exception of NDSU. And even them we can beat if we play flawless and with our hair on fire. Missouri State held them to 22 points in Fargo yesterday. It can be done. This team needs our unwavering support during the “stretch run” of the last 5 weeks. It’s there for the taking, I’m telling you. Please don’t give up on these guys, they have a legitimate shot to do this.

"Lesson # 2...quit giving games away because of lack of focus and discipline". This seems to be a lesson that should have been learned a long time ago but, sadly, keeps rearing its ugly head. Talent, or lack of, has nothing to do with that particular issue, so who's to blame? I haven't given up on the team, never have and never will and I'll continue to support and attend, but I've also learned to have no expectations as to performance and results from game to game. That way when we play well I'm pleasantly surprised and when we play poorly I just shrug my shoulders. Bad attitude...maybe, but truth be told, I've never thought of myself as either an optimist or a pessimist, but as more of a realist. Cliché warning: it is what is. I agree that we should finish at least 5-3 in league, but again questions arise: How often will we play up to our potential? When do we stop beating ourselves? That's how I see things anyway.

Didn't watch the game, but it's just maddening to look at the box score and see 6 damn turnovers with one being a pick six. -4 and still only lost by two possessions. Sure sounds like we beat ourselves again.
This team has five more chances to go out and succeed. It would take a near perfect game to win in Fargo but I believe the other 4 are well within reach. 6-2 in this league should be a no brainer playoff bid if that happens.
Depth is going to become a big question mark as the season goes along. Sounds like we may have lost some key guys from what I've read.
All you can do is move forward. My perception of this team's ability isn't dampened at all by this result. Next week is a Southern Illinois team that has looked pretty tame this year until beating up on Youngstown yesterday. Protect the Dome next week, beat a winless WIU the next week, and protect home turf against YSU and this team would be 5-1 in conference play heading into the xDSU games. I know this team can do it, just gotta pick up the pieces and take it one game at a time.
