Our front-running Yotes get a full four-day rest from competition, and go on the road for two matches to start the second half of the season. The farthest South and the farthest North teams in the conference. I hope they avoid getting "the bends" crossing so many lines of latitude in such a short time... /s.
Despite the geographic disparity, there are many similarities between these two opponents. Both are having disappointing seasons, with much higher expectations than what the results on the court have shown. Both programs have had championship teams in the recent past. But most importantly, these two programs sport birds-of-prey as a mascot. The only non-mammalian mascots in the league. That's a significant stat, I think.

Not liking the travel. Lots of miles logged on this road trip.

Not liking the travel. Lots of miles logged on this road trip. Very long road trip, indeed. They will basically be driving almost the entire length of I-29 twice. next year there will be 7 of 9 teams along that corridor. We should just re-name the conference the "I-29 League". Or the "Tallgrass Prairie League". That would include WIU, too:

Maybe next year UMKC will be travel partners with ORU.

This Week with your 19-1 Yote Volleyball Team
Oral Roberts (2-6 in the Summit)
Players to Watch
Offense: CeCe Madison - Leads the league in Kills, Kills/set Defense: Sarah Thiessen - 4th in the league in digs.
While they only have 2 wins in conference both were at home.
The team needs to keep up the defensive intensity and make someone other than CeCe Madison beat them. Offensively, Madison J needs to continue to spread the ball around and make the team more unpredictable.
North Dakota (2-5 in the Summit)
Players to watch Offense: Ashley Brueggeman - 244 Kills Defense: McKenzie - 250 digs
While the Fighting Hawks rank right in the middle of pack in most categories they tend to defend their home court with lots of energy. They are coming off a win at Oral Roberts. Kiyoat brought up a good point. Having to travel to Tulsa to face Oral Roberts and then all the way to North Dakota. The only bright point here is that ND is in the midst of playing 3 matches in 5 days. Energy and intensity will be key along with playing solid defense. Depth may play a factor in this match.

I just listened to Leanne's net report, and it sounds like they are flying at least from ORU to Grand Forks. Maybe both ways? Good for the Athletic Department for taking care of this team. They deserve it.

This is a tough stretch travel wise. Tulsa tonight and Grand Forks Sunday at 1. Very glad it’s not against upper tier teams as they might be an issue. I look for a little fatigue at North Dakota.

Congrats to our administration for finding the resources to do this. At our level budgets are tight and jaunts like this aren’t cheap. But just like when we bid home court in the women’s WNIT run a few years ago because of the overwhelming success of these teams, our leaders go over the top to soften what was a brutal potential travel schedule. Our gals have a chance to get to 30 wins. Rest will no longer be an issue.
I’m very proud of what we do for our athletes and I’m extremely proud of what they do for us
