so i have read about some peoples frustrations on why this program just cant get it together. A program is only going to be as strong as the people around it expect it to be. There is really no pressure from any direction for things to improve. the fans, admin, etc just have too small of expectations. my point is proven with the general feeling of the Joe Glenn era. There are way too many people that cannot seperate their feelings of Joe with objectivity. Many people consider it a successful era despite a 6-26 conference record. people made far too many excuses to accept his results despite and abysmal record. People say Bob Nielson knows how to coach. He did at the D2 level but has yet to prove at a high FCS level that he can recreate it. I was concerned with his age a bit from the beginning. He isnt getting better just older. Remember when people were calling me out for suggesting Deboer. All he is doing now is kicking ass as Indiana OC. he was younger with upside but no one took him seriously. Disagree with you on the bolded part. If there was no pressure there would not be pages of people posting here calling for coaching changes. There is plenty of pressure to put a contender on the field. I don't know how much pressure Bob is feeling. He's got a 5 year contract, I think he knows he has us by the balls. We seem to be a very inconsistent team and we seem to be a very undisciplined team. Some might call that being a poorly coached team. I hope that's not the case because we are stuck with Bob for the foreseeable future. I'm hoping he can figure this out.

...that's why we keep winning that corn growers championship head-to-head against SDSU every year. We just have a football problem. The Yotes have a big lead in Corn Showdown points for this season. But, let’s not overstate the overall series: Rabbits have taken the trophy 4 times while the Yotes have won it 3. I don’t get too excited about those kind of “competitions”. I have also been reminded that the Rabbits sponsor several more sports than the Yotes (what if ALL sports were counted?) The first post started with the proposition that football drove the bus. Let’s get this back on topic. Our bus has two wheels in the ditch and it’s no other school’s fault Its obvious you are a state fan wearing Yote skin. That is fine, but post accordingly rather than hiding as it seems you have some good points to be made. Personally, I do not and have never cared about wresting or equestrian. I would like to see USD have a baseball or hockey team, but understand why we do not because our enrollment is 65% women, which is awesome. The trophy doesn't matter, but it shows that USD competes even with the jacks in the same major sports, unlike many would think just because of football. We could also add a few womens sports that USD would get points for and it would be a wash. There is also a Summit League Commissioners Cup award that is given every year. This award takes into account every team sport, so there is an advantage with the amount of team sports your University provides. USD won their first overall title last year, but if if I could get some help from Kiyoat, I believe the USD women have won the overall womens award the last 3 years? The outlier is obvious, which is football because we play in a different conference which is the MVFC. USD has competed well in everything but football, which drives the bus. This is why no one knows about it.

One of the DSUs tend to win the Commissioner's Cup because it favors those who sponsor more sports. If they averaged performance by sports offered we would be winning it much more often, but the point remains that no one knows about it and for good reason (just like the Corn Cup or whatever it's called).

Today's win was something I could only dream of when I started this conversation. This is the moment we need to capitalize on. It shows that we can compete and that the dome can be a den that nobody wants to enter.
A lot of in-state football rivalries have been and always will be very lopsided. Think Oklahoma and Oklahoma State. Others can get streaky at times, but are normally back and forth like the Florida schools. Our rivalry with state should start trending towards being a 50/50 type of rivalry. Who knows maybe we'll get our own decade of dominance.
Nevertheless, not all sins of this season are forgiven, but we have hope, which is a beautiful yet dangerous thing. Herbster and Nielson need to have a lot of difficult talks about how this program can become consistently good, and I still think that means some assistant coaching and philosophical changes need to be made. With a few tweaks, fall Saturdays in the Dome may once again become quite the event. I think the 2020s will be roaring.
Thank you seniors.
Go Yotes!
